You'll start in the Imperial City of Marrakesh, head south to the UNESCO Site of Ait Ben Haddou, enjoy the landscapes around Taroudant and end up in the mountains surrounding Ouirgane. This trip is an intimate and on-the-go Morocco holiday for those who want to explore, but not spend all your time hiking or trekking.
Your Itinerary:
Days 1-2: Marrakesh. Here you'll have a chance to get settled in your Riad. You might visit the Koubba Baadiyn and the Ali ben Youssef Koranic School, or the Badii and Bahia Palaces and the Saadian Tombs. You might feel like bargaining or shopping in the local covered market.
Day 3: Ait Benhaddou. Today we'll drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou. This ancient Ksar city has appeared in international films such as Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator. You'll be able to freely wander around the small town on the hill as much as you like.
Day 4: Taliouine. At over 1,000 meters in altitude, the area sits near Mount or Jbel Siroua and is the capital of saffron growing in North Africa. There's plenty of surprising history to learn about this former dynasty location.
Day 5: Taroudant. This town, too, has a rich historical past. The Saadians moved onward to make Marrakesh their home, but still used the area for cotton and indigo. This town has many handicrafts you can't find anywhere else.
Days 6-7: Ouirgane. Some day hiking, biking or simple book and mint tea will make your stay here memorable. The stunning scenery is a relaxant before heading back to the rambunctious Marrakesh tomorrow.
Day 8: Marrakesh. If you feel like getting any last minute souvenirs, such as Berber carpets, pottery, or leather goods, today is the last day. You'll love shopping now on your own knowing some simple phrases and expressions.
Day 9: Depart Marrakesh. Check out of the hotel by noon.
