Circle around Iceland in a leisurly pace to take in all the different sceneries Iceland has to offer including the legendary Snafellsjokull Glacier and Skaftafell National Park.
Your itinerary:
Day 1: Keflavik - Reykjavik
Arrive in Keflavik and transfer to hotel in Reykjavik on your own.
Day 2: Thingvellir - Gullfoss Waterfall - Geysir - Hekla
Today's highlights are many including Thingvellir national park, a place of great geological and historical interest, the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot-spring area. Drive onwards along the mighty Thjorsa¡ river into Thjorsardalur valley with Mt.Hekla, Iceland's most famous volcano towering above. From there head to the South Shore.
Optional: River rafting in the Geysir area, ATV-quad biking in Haukadalur, Stong -Viking age farmhouse.
Day 3: Kirkjubaejarklaustur
Visit Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls. Onwards to Dyrholaey a rocky headland where thousands of puffins nest in summer. Across the vast lava field of Eldhraun to the picturesque village of Kirkjubaejarklaustur, former site of a 12th-century Catholic convent.
Optional: Skogar folk museum
Please note that Dyrholaey is closed during nesting season in spring, middle May til June 23rd
Day 4: Skaftafell National Park - Egilsstadir
Skaftafell National Park, a green oasis nestling below the great Vatnajokull glacier, offers different hiking possibilities. Continue to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon where huge icebergs, float and grind together in the still, deep waters of the lagoon. Drive along the rugged and varied coastline of Austfirdir, Iceland's magnificent East Fjords to Egilsstadir the largest town in the east.
Optional: Jeep tour to Vatnajokull glacier, Boat tour on Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, Boat tour to Papey island, Petra's stone collection
Day 5: Egilsstadir
Explore Egilsstadir and its surroundings. Visit Hallormsstadur the largest forest plantation in Iceland set along the Lagarfljot lake, which according to legend contains a monster.
Optional: Bout tour on Lagarfljot lake.
Day 6: Hofn
Drive to Vopnafjordur village, with its spectacular coast and natural hot springs, continue to Thorshofn a village with 500 inhabitants which is situated on the Langanes peninsula.
Optional: Burstafell museum and old farmstead
Day 7: Husavik - Akureyri
Visit Asbyrgi, a magnificent horseshoe-shaped canyon in Jokulsargljufur National Park. Drive along the Tjornes peninsula to the fishing port of Husavik, continue to Akureyri the capital of the north.
Optional: Whale watching from Husavik
Day 8: Lake Myvatn - Akureyri
Explore the natural wonders of Lake Myvatn area including the fantastic lava formations of Dimmuborgir, the volcanic area of Krafla, and the pseudocraters of Skutustadir. Visit Godafoss waterfall on the way to Akureyri
Day 9: Skagafjordur
From Akureyri continue over oxnardalur pass to the historical region of Skagafjordur renowned for horsebreeding. There is the option of visiting the old farmstead of Glaumbaer a great example of old Icelandic architecture.
Optional: River rafting in Skagafjordur, horse riding in Skagafjordur.
Day 10: Snaefellsnes Peninsula - Arnarstapi - Borgarfjordur
Circle around the legendary Saefellsjokull glacier, which covers a central volcano and Jules Verne made so known. Explore the magnificent columnar basalt rock formations at Arnarstapi. Pass the magnificent Eldborg crater onwards to the agricultural region of Borgarfjordur.
Day 11: Reykjavik
Arrangements end after breakfast.
