Day 2: Levoca, Slovakia. Today we cross the border into eastern Slovakia, enjoying the rural scenery and stopping at the Dobsina ice cave, a vast, frozen underground lake over 60 feet deep and full of impressive ice formations.and the spectacular ruins of the Spissky Hrad Castle, a 13th century vision in white atop a green hill. We continue driving through picturesque countryside to the medieval jewel of Levoca, capital of one of the most prosperous regions of the Slovak Republic for four centuries. Overnight in 3star hotel (historical building) in Levoca.

Day 3: Slovensky Raj. Our hike today takes place in the unique setting of the Slovensky Raj (“the Slovak Paradise”), a 40-square-mile karst plateau covered with pine forests and cut by deep, snaking canyons. It was set aside as a national park in 1988. We follow a trail up the canyon then cross through a woodland to reach the sloping meadows of Klastorisko. There are ruins of 13th century monastery. After lunch, we descend following a trail along the deep gorge of the Hornad River. Overnight in 3star hotel in Levoca.

Day 4: Stary Smokovec/High Tatras. We get our first taste of the High Tatras today on a gradual hike over a 6,000-foot pass to Pod Zelenom, a hikers’ refuge in a lovely alpine setting. After lunch at the refuge, we descend by a different route, then head to Stary Smokovec, a resort town dating to the turn of the century and set below the granite massif of the High Tatras. Overnight in 4star hotel in Tatranska Lomnica or Stary Smokovec.

Day 5: High Tatras. Not far from our hotel, we catch a funicular that carries us up to the ridgetop resort of Hrebienok, set on the edge of a pine forest at 6,000 feet. From here, we set off on a hike along a limestone ridge to the Zamovskeho Hut and up into the lunar landscape around the Teryho Hut (6,748’), the oldest of the huts built in the Tatras for mountaineers and hikers. Teryho is set beside a perfect alpine lake. After lunch, we have an option of a hike up to the lakes above Teryho for the best views of Gerlach, the highest peak in the Slovak Tatras. We can descend to Stary Smokovec by funicular or on foot. Overnight in Tatranska Lomnica or Stary Smokovec.

Day 6: High Tatras. Transfer to ski centre of Strbske Pleso and walk up to Capie Pleso (“White Stork Lake”), where we may be lucky enough to see marmots and chamois. Since the peaks of the Tatras have been protected as a national park for more than 50 years, the wildlife is abundant and ranges from deer to lynx to golden eagles. After a pack lunch, we descend to Strbske Pleso and transfer back to Smokovec (or Lomnica). Overnight in Tatranska Lomnica or Stary Smokovec.

Day 7: Mala Fatra Mountains. Transfer in the morning to western part of Slovakia and visit less known mountains and Slovak smallest national park Mala Fatra. Walking in Mala Fatra limestone area. Less known than the High Tatras mountains, this is a limestone area which is also one of Slovakia's most important national park. A relatively small area offers a wide range of choices of outdoor activities, in summer and winter. Deep gorges and ridge-paths with panoramic views are highly appreciated by all kind of visitors. You may still see the traditional way of life in the area, and wooden architecture in villages such as Stefanova and Terchova. This area is also known as an important site for its Alpine flora, especially orchid meadows. Overnight in 3star hotel in Terchova.
