Prepare yourself to taste…we will offer you some of the best tastes of Portugal, going through the routes of Vinho Verde and Port Wine.
We start by the region of Vinho Verde, a natural and unique drink known around the world. From Porto we go to the North, up the coast, in direction to Viana do Castelo, known as the princess of the River Lima due to its rare beauty. In Minho, the greenest region of Portugal, we can appreciate its historical and architectonic heritage, share its ruralism, its rich handicraft, and the most colourful popular culture.
Unique, Vinho Verde is a mixture of flavors with a slight bite that makes it one of the tastiest drinks. With a low level of alcohol and with great digestive proprieties, its freshness and special qualities make it a very popular wine, mostly during the warm season because its fermentation gives it an incomparable taste and personality. Before the transition of Vinho Verde to Port Wine, we say goodbye to Minho, visiting the cities of Braga, the country’s ecclesiastic capital and Guimarães, the cradle of the nation.
The demarcated region of the Douro valley is a World Heritage Site and sanctuary of the cellars that retain the world famous Port Wine. We go through the valley of the first demarcated region of the world, created in 1756 by Marquês de Pombal, and we taste its wine-filled landscape through cities like Peso da Régua (the official centre of the precious nectar), and Vila Real (founded in 1289), villages like the neolithic Sabrosa or the old episcopal city of Lamego.
We learn how to turn the grapes into wine, we visit the wine cellars, and speak with the producers. At the same time, we taste the flavored local cuisine and finish this wine route with a deserved rest in the “Solares” of Portugal: aristocratic houses and seigniorial mansions of an aristocratic land that used to be inhabited by the noble class. A journey as rich as it is cozy that lets us experience the most familiar things these regions have to offer.
It’s time to go back to Porto, by boat or by train, finishing our journey in Vila Nova de Gaia, more precisely visiting the cellars where the famous Port Wine ages.
