The Peneda-Gerês National Park is Portugal’s only protected area with this status. It was established in 1971, covering 72000 ha next to the Spanish border. This park is a natural jewel of outstanding beauty and this journey takes us to discover its magnificent landscapes, majestic mountains, peaceful forests, fresh rivers and little rural villages.
There are thousands of breathtaking views out over the hills. Take a picture of its dream sceneries and millenary heritage, together with a rich cuisine and traditions that still remain after many generations.
This is a timeless trip to the remains of the Geira, a Roman way from the 1st century BC, medieval castles like Lindoso and Castro Laboreiro, and also the monastery of Santa Maria das Júnias. Caldas do Gerês, a little Spa village established in the main valley, is recognized for its waters rich in fluorine and used in the treatment of the liver and digestive troubles.
Come and discover these wonderful natural surroundings and unique species including wild ponies, golden eagles and the Castro Laboreiro dog breed. Discover the local traditions and customs in little old villages like Soajo and Fafião.
