Minho is the greenest Portuguese region with rich vineyards dotted with sleepy little villages. The catholic religion is deeply rooted in the traditions, as we can find an endless number of monasteries, churches and chapels. Minho’s artistic heritage includes Roman ruins, medieval walled towns and venerable castles, rustic churches and sumptuous cathedrals. Take a walk among the streets of the historical center of Guimarães, the cradle of the Portuguese nation, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. It’s also marvelous to watch the stateliness of the Sé de Braga or the Bom Jesus’s staircase, the path usually taken by pilgrims. On the second day (optional), we visit Viana do Castelo, which is one of the most emblematic places of Northern Portugal. King Afonso III of Portugal founded the town in 1253 in the name of Viana. In the 16th century its port gained great importance as the one of the main ports from which Portuguese explorers set sail due to the discoveries. The most remarkable buildings in the town are from this era. Its traditional folklore is among the richest in the country. After a regional lunch, we visit Ponte de Lima, one of the oldest towns in Portugal, it was historically significant as a Roman settlement in the road from Braga to Compostela and Lugo, and the first place in Portugal getting a municipal chart.
