Marrakech is arguably the best imperial city to visit. Called the Red City on account of the original clay colour of the houses. Once on the hippy trail as the song confirms but not on the itinerary of the backpacker and discerning traveler alike.
Rather modern in appearance, Zagora at first glance seems more important as a regional administrative centre than interesting as a place to visit. Although you will not find the historical architectural wonders of Fez and Meknès, or the richly laden atmosphere of Marrakesh, Zagora remains an interesting point from which to explore this south-eastern corner of Morocco.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Marrakech - Arrival at Marrakech Menara airport. Exursion to Ourika Valley. Transfer to your hotel. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 2: Marrakech - Full day sightseeing of Marrakech: The Menara gardens, The Bahia Palace, The Saadian Tombs, and the Koutoubia mosque. Lunch at the hotel. Afternoon visit of The famous Djemaa El Fna square with its surrounding souks and handicraft centres. Optional dinner Fantasia show, overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Marrakech / Ouarzazate / Zagora (375 km) - Departure to Ouarzazate via the mountains of the high Atlas passing through the Tich’n’Tichka pass at an altitude of 2260 m. Continuation to Zagora via the mountains of the anti Atlas, the Draa valley with its numerous palm groves and Kasbahs. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
Day 4: Zagora / Erfoud (250 km) - After breakfast, excursion to Tamegroute, visit of the famous library containing old books and documents dating from the 12th century. Visit of the sand dunes of Tinfou. Departure to Erfoud, via the new road leading through Tansikht and Nkob where splendid sceneries of pre-saharian desert dotted with Berber villages and of the Sargho Mountain massive follow each other perpetually. Stop at Tazzarine, small Berber village. Afternoon, continuation to Erfoud via the villages of Alnif and Rissani, birthplace of the present Alaouites Dynasty. Dinner and Accommodation at the hotel.
Day 5: Erfoud / Tineghir (200 km) - Early morning, an optional jeep excursion to see the sunrise over the sand-dunes of Merzouga. Back to the hotel for breakfast and continuation to the Tinghir Oasis, famous for its magnificent Todghra canyons which rocks reach an altitude of 250 meters. After the visit, back to Tinghir. Dinner and overnight at the hotel
Day 6: Tinghir / Ouarzazate (170 km) - After breakfast, departure to the Dades canyons for a visit and then continuation to Ouarzazate via the road of the 1000 Kasbahs and the Dades valley, famous for its roses. Afternoon, sight seeing of Ouarzazate with visit of the Kasbah of Taourirt. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
Day 7: Ouarzazate / Marrakech (200 km) - Visit of the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddhou and return to Marrakech via the Tichka pass. Rest of day at leisure. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
Day 8: Marrakech Departure - Transfer to the airport of Marrakech, assistance with departure formalities.
