Day 1: Lima. Upon arrival at the airport in Lima, you will be greeted by your local host and transfer to the hotel. Hotel: Hotel Country Club.
Day 2: Lima To Reserva Amazonica. Breakfast at the hotel followed by a private transfer to the airport for your morning flight to Puerto Maldonado. Arrive in Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to one of the world’s most remote and extraordinary rainforest regions. Travel into the heart of the Tambopata National Park to the river port as your guide explains about the characteristics of the Amazon region. Your 45-minute boat ride on the Madre de Dios River will carry you to the fascinating world of Reserva Amazonica. Check into your Cabana before a buffet lunch in the dining room. This afternoon embark on the excursion of your choice in the park before dinner and an overnight. Hotel: Reserva Amazonica. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 3: Reserva Amazónica. Wake up early to observe the sunrise over the Madre de Dios River before breakfast. Gather in the Eco–Center and board a five-minute boat ride to the Canopy Interpretation Center. Ascend 45 meters above the forest floor and spend 90 minutes walking between treetops on suspension bridges looking down upon giant strangler fig trees, orchids, toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, and with luck, monkeys or a three-toed sloth. Next, a 30-minute walk takes you to a nearby wetland area, an important rainforest ecosystem that is host to many exotic plants and birds. Return for a buffet lunch and siesta before your afternoon excursion to Lake Sandoval. Travel by boat to the Tambopata National Reserve and walk the trail through the wildlife-rich reserve, to the breathtaking oxbow lake, Lake Sandoval. See the endangered giant river otter as well as rare red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, point-tailed palm creepers, and side-neck turtles. Return for cocktails and buffet dinner. Day 4: Reserva Amazonica. After a buffet breakfast meet in the Eco–Center to receive instruction and supplies for the full-day Gamitana excursion. Your journey begins with a 45-minute boat ride to Gamitana farm. Enjoy a three-hour walk through the rainforest and along the bank of a winding dark water creek, home to piranhas, caimans, turtles, and many different species of birds. Return by canoe to the lodge to rest and enjoy its luxurious facilities. Dinner at the lodge. Hotel: Reserva Amazonica. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 5: Reserva Amazonica / Puerto Maldonado / The Sacred Valley.
This morning after breakfast check out of the lodge and return by boat to Puerto Maldonado, an hour and a half upriver. Visit the city’s Butterfly Farm where you can experience several dozen of the more than 3,800 varieties of butterflies and moths found in Peru. Depart on your flight from Puerto Maldonado airport to Cusco. Meet your local host and transfer to the Sacred Valley of the Incas with your driver and private guide in a Land Rover 4x4 (or similar vehicle) to the Sacred Valley. On the way, the guide will explain the itinerary and the many activities and excursions you can choose during your stay in the Valley. Make a scenic roadside stop to enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch in the countryside. Arrive at the villas in the hamlet of Higuspucro, on the outskirts of Urubamba. Your host will receive you at your villa to familiarize you with meal times and special services in the villas and their surroundings. Enjoy a cocktail on the terrace or in front of the fireplace and dinner served in your private dining room. Overnight at your Villa. Hotel: Private Urubamba Villa. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 6: Sacred Valley. Sleep in and enjoy a good breakfast at your leisure. This morning, enjoy a three-hour excursion through the sites of Maras and Moray (3,028 meters altitude). En route, you will see some of the best views of the valley. First, stop at the ancient salt mines of Maras, then visit the huge circular agricultural terraces at Moray and continue to Yahuarmaqui, a ceramics workshop, where you will learn about regional pottery techniques with a local artist. Indulge in a gourmet picnic lunch in the scenic countryside or in a restaurant. This afternoon continue the visit to the town of Pisac with its magnificent ruins and its colorful market. Return in time for cocktails and dinners followed by overnight at your private Villa. Hotel: Private Urubamba Villa. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 8: Sacred Valley / Machu Picchu. After a leisurely breakfast, transfer to the Ollantaytambo train station in the Sacred Valley of the Incas to board your Vistadome train to Machu Picchu. On arrival, meet your local host at the Machu Picchu train station for assistance in transferring luggage to the Machu Picchu Pueblo hotel. Check in and proceed to your casita, where hotel services will be explained and where you will plan your excursion to the ruins, activities on the hotel grounds, dinner reservations, and other services. Have lunch in the main dining room or in Café Inkaterra, where Andean style food is served overlooking the Vilcanota River. This afternoon you are free to enjoy any of the hotel’s attractions before tea is served with a selection of organically grown teas from the hotel’s natural garden. Have dinner in the hotel. Day 9: Machu Picchu. After an early buffet breakfast, depart in the mystical pre-dawn light for a 25-minute ride to the archaeological site of Machu Picchu, just in time to catch the sunrise over the enigmatic citadel. Spend the morning exploring these magnificent ruins, the mirador on Wayna Picchu, and surroundings. Experience the energy and atmosphere of one of the most significant and spectacular archaeological sites on the planet. Return to the hotel for lunch and in the afternoon, live the mysteries of the cloud forest in a Twilight Walk. Take a guided walk in the cloud forest for meditation and mystical connection, visiting pre-Inca rock paintings (pictographs) at Rocotal and Alccamayo, from which the ruins of Wiñay Wayna can be seen on a clear day. Afterwards, relax in the Andean Sauna. You may also enjoy a treatment at the Unu Spa after an exhausting adventurous day. Dinner in the Main Restaurant. Hotel: Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo. Day 10: Machu Picchu/Cusco. After breakfast take an early transfer to the station and take the train back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival to the train station, take your private transfer to Cusco and embark on a half day private guided excursion throughout this charming city. Visit the main plaza, the stone arches and constructions that surround the square, built by the Spanish. Admire the churches of the Cathedral and the Society of Jesus, experience the mystery of the Temple of the Sun or Korikancha, the famous twelve sided stone, and explore the San Blas suburb, the residence of the best artists since the colony. Dine at leisure at a local restaurant in town. Overnight at Hotel Monasterio. Hotel: Hotel Monasterio. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 11: Cusco - Lima. Enjoy the buffet breakfast at the hotel at your leisure. Enjoy this morning at leisure to explore the city of Cusco on your own then transfer to Cusco’s airport to take your flight to Lima. After lunch at your leisure, spend a relaxed afternoon in Lima with optional excursions. Afterwards transfer to the airport to board your flight back home. Includes: (B).
