This trek allows you to savor some of the best hiking in the world with only a two-week time commitment. Utilizing local lodges, you will experience not only beautiful scenery, but also have a glimpse into the lives of the families running the lodges. The lodges are their homes with rooms added for passing trekkers. The food is basic, but quite good, and the hospitality is friendly and sincere. This adventure will be one to remember.
Brief Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu.
Day 2: Kathmandu.
Day 3: Kathmandu/Pokhara.
Day 4: Pokhara/Phedi/Dhampus.
Day 5: Dhampus/Gandruk.
Day 6: Gandruk/Tadapani.
Day 7: Tadapani/Gorepani.
Day 8: Gorepani/Birethanti.
Day 9: Birethanti/Pokhara.
Day 10: Pokhara/Kathmandu.
Day 11: Kathmandu/Onward.
Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu.
On arrival in Kathmandu, you will be met by a our staff member at the airport and transferred to your Western-style hotel. Your guides will be available for advice on everything, from how to bargain to choosing restaurants to learning a little bit of the Nepali language. After your arrival you will have some time to just relax, or to nibble at the feast of new experiences in this exotic city. Later there will be a brief orientation.
Day 2: Kathmandu.
Your second day in Kathmandu includes guided visits to famous temples of Swayambhunath, Pasupatinath or Boddhanath. You will see life going on as it has for hundreds of years against a background of sacred peaks, terraced hillsides and an exotic culture. In Kathmandu and throughout your trip, we encourage you to interact with local people either through your guide as interpreter, or through participation in the activities that are all around you. While you explore, your staff gets all your food supplies and logistical requirements in order. Includes: (B)
Day 3: Kathmandu/Pokhara.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Pokhara. There you will be met and transferred to the Shangri-La hotel. From here, you will have views of the Annapurna range including the sacred Machapuchare. Includes: (B)
Day 4: Pokhara/Phedi/Dhampus.
Today you will be driven to Phedi and then start your hike up to Dhampus, which stretches from 5,182m - 5576m. You will have your first views of rural Nepal life in this small village of Gurung and Magar communities. Many people in this village serve the British Gorkha Army. You make climb to the ridge above the Yangri Khola Valley. Dhampus offers excellent views of all of the high peaks of Annapurna, including Machapuchare. If your timing is right, you may also see birds migrating from Tibet to Chitwan in Southern Nepal. Includes: (B, L, D)
Day 5: Dhampus/Gandruk.
Today you hike over a small pass, then descend to the Gurung village of Landrung above the Modi Khola River. From the river, a set of stone steps leads you into the maze of alleyways and terraces of Gandruk, one of the most beautiful communities in this area. From here, you have excellent views of Annapurna South. Includes: (B, L, D)
Day 6: Gandruk/Tadapani.
The trail continues up and down through forests to the village of "Bainse Kharka". After this village, the trail descends down toward the dry stream and then finally climbs again gradually passing through the rhododendron forest. After you have emerged out of the forest, you reach the village of Tadapani. Includes: (B, L, D)
Day 7: Tadapani/Gorepani.
The trail descends for an hour and than climbs gradually to reach the village of Banthanti. The trail continues twisting and turning up hill through the village of Daurally. After passing through more forests, you reach Gorepani. From here, you have excellent views of both Mt. Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Includes: (B, L, D)
Day 8: Gorepani/Birethanti.
The trail descends through a beautiful dense rhododendron forest for about an hour. After about two hours, you will pass through a Gurung village of Ulleri. After crossing the Burundi Khola River, the trail continues with a gradual descent to Birethanti. Includes: (B, L, D)
Day 9: Birethanti/Pokhara.
After breakfast you will drive back to Pokhara and be taken to the Shangri-La Resort. The rest of the day is free to explore Pokhara on your own. Perhaps take a boat out on the lake or enjoy browsing the many shopping stalls. Pokhara is a hub of activity. Includes: (B, L, D)
Day 10: Pokhara/Kathmandu.
Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to your centrally located hotel upon where the rest of the day is free to explore on your own or do some last minute shopping. Includes: (B)
Day 11: Kathmandu/Onward.
Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
