This moderate trek starts from Drugyal Dzong at Paro and it ends at Thimphu. The total duration of the trek is nine days including a day rest at the base camp. The trek passes through scattered villages of yak herders and varieties of flora. On your rest day at the base camp, you can explore around the Jhomolhari and interact with Yak herders.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Bangkok - Paro. Upon your arrival, our dedicated representative will welcome you in traditional manner and transfer you to the hotel. There will be an orientation of the valley and hand out your elaborated entire tour itinerary. After lunch, visit the National Museum originally built as a watch tower in 1651 and it has the collection of Bhutanese treasures. Proceed to Paro Dzong, built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel a religious leader who unified the country in 17th century. Overnight at Olathang Hotel.
Day 2: Paro. An acclimatization day excursion to Taksang Monastery. Today, hike to the venerated Taksang Monastery (Tiger's nest) perched on the cliff overlooking the valley. The climb up to the view point will take about hour and half and enjoy the up close view of the monastery, where Guru Padmasambava had landed on the back of a Tigress in 8th century, and meditated for three months. Have lunch at the cafeteria while enjoying the tranquility and eye-catching view of the monastery. On the way back, visit Drugyal Dzong (ruin Fortress) standing at the end of the road, built in 1649 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel to commemorate his victory over the Tibetan army. Next, stop at Kyichu Monastery built in 7th century to subdue a demon that was obstructing the teaching of Buddhism. Overnight at the Olathang Hotel.
Day 3: Paro-Shana (2,788m and 17km-5-6 hrs). The trek starts from Drukgyel Dzong (2,580) with a brief downhill walk and a gradual trail along the cultivated scattered villages. Hot packed lunches will be served on the way. Continue walking, on the way we will pass through the army post of Guneysawa at 2,810m. Our overnight camp will be at Shana close to the gushing stream of Paro Chu.
Day 4: Shana-soi Thangthangkha (20 km, 7-8 hours). After breakfast start walking along the river of the Pa Chu (Paro River) heavily forested by pine and oak. The trails are mix of gradual uphill and downhill climbs. Hot lunch will be provided on the way. Our campsite is at 3,750m.
Day 5: Soil Thangthang kha-Jangothang (19km, 7-8 hours). On a clear day you can capture the stunning view of Mount Jhomolahri in the north. Leave after breakfast for base camp trail passing through Tengethang, a small village of yak herders. Our campsite at Jangothang is 4,040m.
Day 6: Explore the area either hike to the glacier or wander up to the lakes.
Day 7: Jangothang – Lingshi (18 km, 7-8 hours). The trail starts climbing through the first ridge and steady walk after that until the next climb to the Nyelela Pass at 4700 m. After a short stop at the top, start gradual descend to our campsite at Lingshi at 4,000m.
Day 8: Lingshi-Shodu (22 km, 8-9 hours). Leave the campsite for Shodu. Today we will climb a pass called Yalila Pass at 4815m. After here, we will begin descending alongside the stream until we reach to campsite at Shodu at 4100m.
Day 9: Shodu-Barshong (16 km, 6-7 hours). The trail follows the route of the Thimphu Chu, descending through Rhododendron, Juniper and mixed alpine forests. There are stunning views of rocky cliffs face and waterfalls along the way. We will stop at the riverside for a hot lunch. Then the trail takes us gradually upwards to the ruins of Barshong Dzong (3,600m), near the campsite for the night.
Day 10: Barshong - Dolam Kencho (15 km, 5-6 hours). Begin descending through a dense forest of Rhododendron, Birch and conifers, down to Thimphu River. The trail runs along the left bank of the river, climbing over ridges and descending to side the river. Before reaching to the campsite, the trail climbs around a cliff face high above the Thimphu Chu, coming out onto Pastureland where we camp for the night at 3,600 m.
Day 11: Dolam Kencho - Dodena - Thimphu (8 km, 3 hours). Last day of the trek and the trail lead in and out of side valley above the Thimphu chu, climbing through a forest of conifers and high altitude broad leaf species to a pass at 3,510 m. Then trail drops down to the river, following it southward to the road head at Dodena (2,600m). At Dodena, our transport will welcome us and drive to Thimphu. Also, if we have enough time, we will visit Cheri Monastery before en routing for Thimphu. Overnight at Druk Hotel.
Day 12: Thimphu - Paro. Begin the sightseeing at textile museum which has collections of many Bhutanese hand woven textiles brought in from many parts of districts in the country. Next, you will visit Folk Heritage museum, which is dedicated to connecting people to the Bhutanese rural past through exhibition of items and artifacts used in rural households. After that, visit Institute for Zorig Chusum commonly known as the Painting School, the Institute offers a six-year course on the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan. After lunch, you will visit National Library established in the late 1960s and contains Bhutan’s history in the form of religious and historical literature. Trashicho Dzong the Fortress of Auspicious Religion built by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in 1641. The Dzong houses the throne room of the King and summer residence of the central monastic body. On the way to Paro, visit Simtokha Dzong built in 1627 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Overnight at Uma Paro Resort.
Day 13: Paro - Depart. Early morning drive to Airport to catch your onward flight to your destination. You may eat your breakfast at the hotel or order to carry on the plane. Thank you for choosing our company and allowing us to serve you.
