Our short Alsatian escape starts from one of the prettiest towns we’ve ever seen, Colmar. Some would compare it to a movie set or equate it with the experience of being plunged back to medieval times in a time machine. Be assured that the rest of your experience in Colmar, whether gastronomic or oenological, will be on par with the town’s beautiful narrow streets, pretty houses, and romantic canals.
Colmar is only a starting point, an appetizer for more…and you will definitely be tasting and experience more in the next few days, discovering some remarkable sites and villages in the Alsace, such as Eguisheim, Turckheim, Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, and Ribeauville. This 4-day escape makes good use of Alsace’s impressive network of bikeways and bike lanes, making this getaway a stress-free and healthy experience filled with beauty and pleasure. This tour starts any day, except Sunday, March through October. Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive in Colmar Colmar is reached by train from Strasbourg, which is serviced by high-speed train. Alternatively, you can fly to Basel/Mulhouse International Airport and catch a direct regional train. Your hotel is conveniently located right outside Colmar. This is where you’ll meet our representative who will outfit you with bikes and personally give you all the necessary materials. Colmar’s extensive bicycle network will allow you to ride safely to the center of town in a matter of minutes. Day 2: Colmar – Turckheim (22 km or 14 miles) Venturing away from Colmar you will cycle on bikeways and traffic-free roads through the Ried, or low-level lands, before reaching the Alsatian wine-making area, boasting typical and beautiful villages. One place definitely not to miss is Eguisheim, a village so pretty that it has been elected as “One of France’s Prettiest”. Restricted traffic makes this virtually traffic–free village of cobbled streets and half-timbered houses an island of beauty and silence, best enjoyed from a café’s terrace sipping a glass of Riesling. A bit further on and you’ll be in Turckheim, your destination for the day. Day 3: Turckheim – Selestat (35 km or 21 miles) If you haven’t had a chance to walk through the historic part of Turckheim, make sure you do so before hopping on your bike and departing. The day will then be filled with colorful villages, each one more beautiful than the last! Don’t expect to average your usual speed - Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, and Ribeauvillé are bound to stop you…and keep you mesmerized and awestruck by so much beauty! Luckily, you only have 40 km to ride! Your hotel for the night is located in the historic town of Selestat. Day 4: Selestat – Colmar (38 km or 24 miles) Cycling through the Ried and back to Colmar on very quiet roads will allow you to discover some small, rural, and authentic villages. Far from the usual tourist itineraries, these picturesque villages will provide you with welcome interest points and respite before reaching Colmar, where your trip comes to an end. Notes: Pricing:
