The Cyclades are a Greek island group in the Aegean Sea, south-east of the mainland of Greece; and an administrative prefecture of Greece. They are one of the island groups which constitute the Aegean archipelago. The name refers to the islands "around" the sacred island of Delos. The Cyclades comprise about 220 islands, the major ones being Amorgos, Anafi, Andros, Antiparos, Delos, Ios, Kéa, Kimolos, Kythmos, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Folegandros, Serifos, Sifnos, Sikinos, Sire, Tinos and Santorini. Most of the smaller islands are uninhabited. Ermoupolis, on Síros, is the chief town and administrative center of the prefecture.
The islands are peaks of a submerged mountainous terrain, with the exception of two volcanic islands, Milos and Santorini (Thera). The climate is generally dry and mild, but with the exception of Naxos the soil is not very fertile. Agricultural produce includes wine, fruit, wheat, olive oil and tobacco.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Athens and transfer to your hotel for overnight.
Day 2: After a sightseeing tour in Athens - including the visit of the Acropole, we will proceed to the Pireaus port for an overnight ferry to Santorini (possibility to prefer a flight + overnight in Santorini).
Day 3: One of the best known of the Cyclades thanks to its geological morphology, the result of action by a volcano now dormant.
Day 4: Depending on the available ferry schedules, we will leave Santorini for either Paros or Naxos where we will enjoy our time walking along the coast.
Day 5: Time at pleasure to wander in Paros, the third-largest of the Cyclades after Naxos and Andros and has developed into an important center of tourism in recent years.
Day 6: Depending on the available ferry schedules, we leave Paros (or Naxos) for world-famous Mykonos attracting many visitors from all over the globe, including large numbers of artists and intellectuals.
Day 7: Day at leisure in Mykonos or possibility to join a boat excursion to the sacred island of Delos. Delos, an uninhabited island at 6 miles from Mykonos, is a vast archaeological site with superb monuments drawing thousands of visitors for it was for a thousand years or so after the ninth century BC, the political and religious center of the Aegean. At night, we return to Athens by overnight ferry or, if you wish, you may want to fly and spend the overnight in Athens.
Day 8: Time at leisure till the transfer to the airport for home flight. Should you have some hour to fill, you may want to visit the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.
