A fantastic active program in the Finnish uplands and downland. Enjoy pure nature and forest wildlife riding on an Icelandic horse. Horses are sturdy and good natured, perfect for a relaxing ride in the forest. Plenty of opportunities to see elks and gallinaceous birds on the route. You might even see traces of bears and wolves.
The program includes 5 riding days through a variety of landscapes and dense forests. There will also be free time to enjoy the varied alternative leisure activities in the light Scandinavian summer nights.
The ride is suitable for experienced riders. Horses are well trained Icelandic horses. They are small but strong, as well as calm and easy to handle. We ride in peaceful forest paths and tracks in nice and smooth as well as rapid pace.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival Day. Arrival to Kajaani airport and transfer to Paltamo (about 30 min.). Check-in to your accommodation, privately owned Taivaan Pankko. Information about the following days and dinner. Overnight at Taivaan Pankko. Includes: (D).
Day 2: Introduction. Transfer to Holl Stables (about 10 min.) after breakfast. We will meet our guide and hear about Icelandic horses upon arrival at the stables. After our introduction, we leave for a short ride to the forest. Duration 4 – 5 hours. Transfer back to Taivaan Pankko afterwards. Overnight at Taivaan Pankko. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 3: Overnight Safari. We start our riding safari today! Transfer to Holl Stables after breakfast. Today’s ride will be about 8 hours and will take us through Finnish forests and hillside. We will head towards Lake Pieni Latvajarvi in Paljakka where we will overnight in a cottage nearby. Some time for a relaxing sauna and a chance to swim in the lake. Overnight at a cottage near Lake Pieni Latvaiarvi in Paljakka. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 4: Safari Continues. We start our 6 hours ride after breakfast and head to Ristijarvi village. After riding through the Finnish countryside, we take a short break at a lake. A chance to go swimming with the horses. We continue our journey afterwards. Our overnight accommodation will be in a cottage located at the top of Saukkovaara hill near the village of Ristijarvi. Sauna and dinner in the evening. Massage can be arranged to ease your tired muscles. Overnight at a cottage on top of Saukkovaara Hill. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 5: Back to the Stables. Today’s journey will take us back to Hóll Stables. The trip will take 6 hours. Transfer back to Taivaan Pankko after taking care of the horses at the stables. Massage, if desired, and sauna. Dinner in the evening. Overnight at Taivaan Pankko. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 6: Optional Day of Activities. A short two hours farewell ride at Hóll Stables and leisure time afterwards for optional activities.

Enjoy our farewell dinner in the evening. Overnight at Taivaan Pankko. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 7: Departure Day. After breakfast, transfer to Kajaani Airport.
Note: Please note that we expect previous, regular riding experience from under 12 year old children. Riders should not weigh more than 100 kg per person.
Food: Food is a basic Finnish food with meat, fish, vegetables, roots, fruits and berries. During the riding days we have our lunch made on open fire or cooker. Lunch often includes sandwiches, soup, fruits and tea or coffee. Water and juice are always available.
Accommodation: Taivaan Pankko is a unique farm house situated in a peaceful spot on top of Mustolanvaara, a foothill, just 3km from the center of Paltamo. Taivaan Pankko’s main building has five rooms accommodating a total of 5 – 10 guests. Each room is individually decorated. There is also a big traditional style living room and kitchen, and there are WC/shower facilities on both floors.
Cottages in Paljakka and Saukkovaara have double rooms, shower and toilet facilities. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag or sheets.
Equipment and clothing: Its good to prepare for rain. Gore-tex is good but not essential as it’s not usually so cold during this time of year, and the route is not too windy. During the day, temperatures can rise up to 25 degrees centigrade, but it can also be below 20 degrees and rainy.
Horses carry in the saddlebags the equipment you need during the day (cameras, extra clothes, rain clothes, water bottle, mosquito repellent, etc...). During the safari, your baggage is transferred to the cottages by car.
