Thanh Phu is an ethnic minority village of the Red Dao people, located near the hill station town of Sapa in north east Vietnam. The villagers' lives revolve around agriculture with the planting and growing of rice and vegetables on the mountainside. The village does not have access to fresh and clean water with only a temporary bamboo pipe system carrying water from a nearby mountain spring. Participants will spend three days in the village improving the access to a clean water resource by constructing large water basins to hold fresh water and constructing a stable water pipe system to carry the water to the villagers' homes. This community project is the perfect way to commence our adventure through the diverse country of Vietnam which will then continue with a visit to the capital of Hanoi, and the coastal town of Hoi An before concluding in the bustling, modern city of Ho Chi Minh.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Join Hanoi
Day 2: Hanoi. Overnight train to Lao Cai
Day 3: Arrive Lao Cai. Trek to Thanh Phu village
Days 4-6: Community project at Thanh Phu village
Day 7: Trek to Sapa
Day 8: Drive to Hanoi
Day 9: Hanoi. Overnight train to Hue
Day 10: In Hue
Day 11: Transfer to Hoi An
Day 12: Hoi An
Day 13: Fly to Ho Chi Minh City
Day 14: Cu Chi tunnels
Day 15: In Ho Chi Minh City, trip concludes
