Donna Discover is also a community for the women who come and participate in our programs. Whether returning or joining for the first time, women who want to get to know and enjoy the activities with others find the Good Life program in Lucca a magnet event. Last year's travel weekend included women from many countries with great success and our invitation once again includes both foreign and domestic travelers. The diversity of perspectives enriches our activities, which encourage the sharing of impressions and experiences.
This year, the Travel Weekend returns to Lucca, elegant, relaxing, beautiful Lucca, the pearl of Tuscany. Lucca is also a safe city, made for women, making it the ideal location for the activities planned for the weekend. The program will combine exploring the region with more artistic and creative activities in music and film.
Journey of Discovery – La Città and La Terra: Lucca is unique, encircled by an ancient wall that is perfectly integrated into the countryside, the history, the present day. The rampart walls with their wide paths crowned with trees like a necklace of green is the ideal of the marriage of human endeavor and natural beauty. Within the walls, Lucca weaves a charm through its medieval alleys, noble palazzos, beautiful churches, welcoming open squares, small shops and grand boutiques.
Out of the city, we will take a sojourn to discover the Media Valle del Serchio, a river that traverses the history of the region, the small-town traditions and the fortresses scattered among the hills. The river begins in the Gargagnana mountains, a region whose agricultural, artisanal and cultural traditions reflect its people in their robust and direct character, their openness in the face of a changing world while continuing to live in their valleys and small villages.
Discover the taste of spelt, of pecorino cheese, of special breads and honey, ancient flavors that blend well into a modern kitchen interested in quality.
From the mountains and valleys we will turn to the Lucca plains to discover the stone towns surrounded by camellias in flower to sample local products and arts.
Lucca Jazz Donna. An extra session just for us!
For four years, Lucca Jazz Donna has been presenting the best international jazz women artists. These women embody jazz in their instruments, in their voices, in their spirits, in their style. With the help of the Lucca Office of Tourism and the Lucca Jazz Circle, Donna Discover has succeeded in getting this extra concert giving us the chance to enjoy jazz and save the dates for 2009 festival. Jazz, rhythm, movement... Donna Discover can't live without them!
Film – The Broad Humor Film Festival of Comedies by Women: The Broad Humor Film Festival is coming from Los Angeles to share the work of women in the United States and Canada and to inspire women to express their creative vision on film.
Broad Humor was a response to the lack of opportunities for women directors and writers to have their work recognized by the Hollywood establishment and by the male-dominated film festival world. Founder Susan di Rende, director/screenwriter/journalist, wanted to give these women an audience and an opportunity to gather into a community of support.
Susan will be in Lucca to invite participants to enter the magic of film making, to see how enjoyable it is to laugh from a woman's perspective, and to help pull the humor out of the daily experiences of women so that our common experiences are revealed to be both funny and true. Donna Discover is a unique opportunity to see the films from past festivals and to learn how easy it could be for attendees to take part in the 2008 edition this coming June.

Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Friday, March 7th 2008 - Arrival of travelers in Lucca during the morning. 2 p.m. meeting with our personal traveler, first tour of the city centre, discovering monuments and shops! Dinner together. Lucca Jazz Donna concert.
Day 2: Saturday, March 8th 2008 - Morning tour of Media Valle del Serchio and Garfagnana, stopping in Barga, Castelnuovo and Fortezza delle Verrucole an enchanting fortress up on the mountains. In the afternoon we come back to the city centre, and you can both choose to take part to filming workshop or going around the centre again. During all afternoon it will be possible to watch short movies coming from Broad Humor festival of 2007 and 2006. We will meet together for a drink before dinner. 10:00 p.m. We will watch a feature film coming from Broad Humor film festival! After that, if you still are not falling asleep, well we will go again for a drink!
Day 3: Sunday, March 9th 2008 - To be confirmed: 9:30 a.m. workshop on perfumes, scents, herbs. 11:00 a.m. we leave for S. Andrea di Compito, where we will visit the exhibition dedicated to Ancient Camellias of Lucca. We will end the day according to train/flights timing.
