Arblaster & Clarke Wine Tours Autumn Champagne Weekend
29 - 31 October 2010
Our first visits are to a high quality grower, Champagne Goutorbe and to Champagne Taittinger based in Reims itself. Reims, is home to many of the great names in Champagne. Apart from Taittinger; Krug, Roederer, Clicquot, Mumm and Charles Heidsieck have their cellars here. It has a long and interesting history. It was important in the Latter Roman Empire and there are several monuments still in evidence, including a Triumphal Arch, the Forum and the stone quarries or crayères which these days are used as cellars by many Champagne Houses.
On Monday morning, we visit the cellars of two more great grower Champagne houses, Champagne Vilmart and Champagne Launois. We taste some superb Champagne over our lunch at Champagne Launois, who own a large number of vineyards in the Côte des Blancs.
