This is on the north-east side of the Montagne (and reputed to be the coldest village in Champagne) makes traditionally styled wines, with a lighter yet assertive feel. On Monday morning, we visit the dynamic house of Canard Duchêne in Reims. We will be treated to a demonstration of opening bottles with sabres. Our last visit is to Launois, an old established grower in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Launois are one of the best grower producers in the Côte des blancs. We taste some superb champagne over our last lunch here in their renaissance chateau.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: 07.30 Depart Victoria 09.15 Meet Folkestone (all tours) 10.00 Meet Dover (ferry tours only) Channel crossing by ferry or shuttle as indicated. Travel to Reims. Comparative champagne tasting.
Day 2: Morning Champagne visit. Free lunchtime in Reims. Afternoon visit. Comparative champagne tasting.
Day 3: Morning champagne visit. Lunch at a small Champagne House. 2000 / 2030 Return Dover (ferry tours only) 2030/2100 Return Folkestone. 2230 Return Victoria.
Joining in Reims: these breaks can be combined with an extension in Paris as the connection between the Champagne region and Paris is very good. For example, Reims is just 45 minutes from Paris by train (TGV).
Travel: Fery Crossing to Dover.
