This tour centered on the ‘right bank’ vineyards of St Emilion and Pomerol, looks at the famous right bank wines in depth, as well as taking in the fascinating rising stars in communes including Fronsac, Côtes de Bourg and the St Emilion and Pomerol satellites. Our home for the tour is a leading St Emilion chateau, Franc-Mayne, where as is customary on these tours, you will be welcomed as house guests. This is a private chateau and the accommodation is a good 4* standard.
Our Wine Guide, Steven Spurrier, is passionate about Bordeaux and is generally accepted to have an outstanding palate. Through his connections you will be given a privileged insight into this most famous wine region.
Our wine visits in St Emilion itself are magnificent. We call in on some of the finest chateaux, such as Château Figeac, Château Canon La Gaffelière, and Château Canon. We also enjoy a tasting of all the St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé B’s. This fantastic experience, tutored by Steven, will allow you to compare and contrast the styles and terroirs within the appellation.
We take a close look at the so called ‘satellite appellations’, in particular Fronsac and Canon-Fronsac, where we have a round up tasting. We visit Château La Dauphine, and stay for lunch. In the afternoon we visit Château St George in St Georges-St Emilion, a magnificent property.
In the neighboring micro-appellation of Pomerol we have several visits; to the wonderful Le Pin; to La Conseillante, outstanding in all recent tastings, another rising superstar of Pomerol; and to ‘La Pointe’, our lunch visit, owned by the D’Arfeuille family, a particular favourite of Steven’s.
We round our tour off with a rare chance to visit the leading ‘right bank’ négociant, and owner of many of the greatest ‘right bank’ chateaux, including for instance Petrus - J.P. Moueix in Libourne.
Our last lunch will be at John Cochrane’s Château Falfas, ‘biodynamique’ stars in Côtes de Bourg.
This is a truly superb tour that visits many of Bordeaux’s most important properties and discovers some of the region’s stars of tomorrow. You can fly to Bordeaux, take the TGV or drive down to join us making this part of a longer holiday.
