Follow the Oxford Canal out of Oxford and soon you arrive at Blenheim Palace. Explore this magnificent palace and ride on through tiny lanes to your village overnight stay. Enjoy the old woolen town of Witney and some characterful village inns before wending your way back to Oxford through the tranquil meadows of the Thames.
Tour Details: - Start/finish: starts Fridays and is circular from Oxford - Hotels: hand picked bed and breakfast accommodation close to the heart of Oxford and in a Cotswold village - Cycling mileage: 2 days of cycling 22 - 24 miles (35 - 38 km) per day - Skill level: novice - Terrain: a few slopes - Traffic free: more than half, very low traffic on the rest. Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Oxford Arrive in Oxford on Friday and check into your hotel located close to the heart of the city. Enjoy the treasures of this beautiful city and stroll through the colleges of the University with their magnificent architecture. Take in the museums, galleries and libraries galore, and perhaps a concert or play. Discover the little tea rooms and fine restaurants, the unique shops and back streets and the river backwaters dotted with punters and rowing eights. Day 2: Oxford to a Cotswold village - 24 miles (38 km) At a time to suit you make your way to our base which is close to your hotel and is open from 9 am to pick up your cycling equipment. Your host will meet you there, organize your bicycle and run through your itinerary. Then you are off on a rural waterside ride to the Cotswold stone village of Woodstock. Here you can explore grandiose Blenheim Palace with its 2000 acres of Capability Brown landscape. Winston Churchill was born here and its now home to the 11th Duke of Marlborough. Leafy Cotswold lanes now beckon as you ride through timeless villages to your overnight stay in a Cotswold inn nestled in the heart of this charming village. Day 3: A Cotswold village to Oxford - 22 miles (35 km) There's a pretty and varied ride today that meanders through unspoilt countryside to the Cotswold town of Witney. Take in its history and relax before heading to the Thames meadows - wild and beautiful. They lead you right into the heart of Oxford with lots to discover before you arrive there. Return your bikes to our base by 4 pm and your luggage will be waiting for you. Notes: Weekend supplement £10 per person
