This trip starts with a drive from Winnipeg to the floatplane base. We then fly into the Bloodvein River (about a 45 minute flight) to begin our canoe trip. The next 6 days are spent exploring the pristine, powerful Bloodvein River as it flows through Atikaki (Land of the Caribou) Wilderness Park. The Bloodvein, a Canadian Heritage river, offers a diversity of experiences unsurpassed by any river in the vast Canadian Shield. Much of the shoreline is lined by 2.5 billion year old Precambrian shield cliffs. Glacial scour and other evidence of recent glaciation is present along both rivers. Pictographs, wildlife including numerous eagles, ancient granite cliffs, tranquil marshlands and exciting rapids make it a naturalist’s and photographer's paradise.

The river varies dramatically in width and character as it meanders through marshes and pours into narrow canyons. There are several canyons each containing several class 1 to 3 rapids. Day 7 will include a traditional meal and Sweat Lodge at the Bloodvein First Nation. Upon reaching Lake Winnipeg, a boat will ferry us past the limestone cliffs and expansive vistas of one of Canada's most beautiful and largest lakes.

Day 7: Paddle to the Bloodvein Firat Nation, enjoy a traditional meal and participate in a Sweat Lodge. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 8: Catch a ferry across Lake Winnipeg and return to Winnipeg that evening. Includes: (B), (L).
