Saturday: Arrival and Orientation

Arrive in Santiago, Chile and continue flying south to Chaiten. We meet you here and continue the scenic Andean tour with a drive to the Patagonian mountain town of Futaleufu where you settle in to the Hosteria Rio Grande and enjoy a welcome dinner.

Day 2:
Sunday: Bike riding and Sit-on-Top Kayaking on the Espolon

Spend the morning riding mountain bikes along the pristine waters of the Rio Espolon. View the impressive waterfalls, have lunch, then trade out biking gear for sit-on-top kayaks and paddling gear. In double or singe crafts you tour the transparent Espolon. Filled with ideal swimming areas and easy rapids, this is a perfect introductory run.

Canyoning in Gelves Canyon begins with a hike up alongside the rim of the canyon. Then, using specialized rapelling and canyoning techniques and equipment, drop down the cascades, slides, and transparent pools in this lush, temperate rainforest.

In the afternoon, we head to Lago Lonconao, a spectacular alpine style lake surrounded by pyramid peaks, for an introduction to 2-person sea kayaking.

Day 5:
Wednesday: Rafting Corazon and Casa de Pieidra to El Macal

This morning, hike to one of the dramatic overlooks of town, or choose another excursion. After lunch, head back to the river. Here you will run the first of the class 5 drops, beneath glacier crowned peaks.

Day 6:
Thursday: Rafting the Infierno

This is the most demanding, committing and dangerous section of the Futaleufu. We put in on the Rio Espolon, then enter the Inferno Canyon with several continuous and serious class 5 drops. Then the river widens and mellows, only to approach "Zeta" and "Throne Room", two of the most ferocious rapids on the Futaleufu. We will portage these, and finish with the action packed class 3 and 4 "Wild Mile".

Day 7:
Friday: Rafting the Terminator

We put in at the Rio Azul, where we took out yesterday, and wind around the Tres Monjas Peaks.
