A traditional feast like "Mom" used to make! Thanksgiving tour includes incredible breakfasts, quaint bed and breakfast accommodations, and three unique day tours in the mountains, valleys and deserts.
Tour Itinerary:
DAY 1: HAPPY THANKSGIVING and WELCOME TO THE MOJAVE DESERT. Check into your private room and relax in our hot tub while looking out at the clear, starry desert skies. Refreshments are on us, and soon you'll be at the grand table, enjoying a large, traditional Thanksgiving feast, prepared according to old family recipes. Evening refreshments will follow, perhaps sitting by the fire in one of the common guest rooms. Meals: (D)
DAY 2: RIVERS, LAKES & STREAMS. After a comfortable and restful night and a perfectly prepared breakfast, motor to the quaint mountain village of Kernville, traveling over a nearly mile-high summit. There you stop to explore the shops and residential areas of the village, and the riverbanks that look over the mighty Kern River. Enjoy lunch at one of the fun little restaurants in the village, then motor around the lake and return to your home base. Along the way, you can stop and explore an Audubon bird sanctuary and observe other rural sights, glimpse some wildlife on or off the road, and, if open, browse a true pioneer general store that's a century and a half old.
Back at The BEVLEN HAUS, freshen up, relax, and enjoy refreshments and hors d'oeuvres before making your way to an evening meal in town. We'll recommend the area's best restaurants, and menus are available for your perusal. Meals: (B)
DAY 3: DEATH VALLEY EXPLORED. After breakfast, you'll make your way to Death Valley National Park for a surreal desert experience. Death Valley features some of the world's most magnificent sand dunes, and other eerie sites like Badwater (lowest point below sea level in North American), Devil’s Golf Course, Artist’s Palette, Zabriskie Point, Scotty’s Castle, and various canyons and sites off the main roads. At the tourist center you can tour the museum and view a showing of the valley's history. Stop along the way for a gourmet picnic lunch prepared by your hosts at the BevLen Haus.
Return by way of Panamint Springs Resort, where you can purchase traveling snacks and refuel, if necessary. Then continue on to a recommended restaurant and enjoy a glass of wine with your dinner or a selection of excellent ice cold beers or a root beer produced at the restaurant’s adjacent microbrewery. Overlook the community lights in the darkening valley below and watch as the runway lights go on when aircraft approach to land at the nearby general aviation airport. Upon your return to The BEVLEN HAUS you can enjoy another evening dip in the spa and relax in one of our common guest rooms with evening refreshments. Meals: (B) (L)
DAY 4: ADIEU. We bid you farewell, and after a full and leisurely breakfast, return home via US Highway 395 or 14, depending on your destination. If traveling Highway 395 going south, consider stopping at one of the nearby “living ghost towns” to browse the shops, museum, and general store, where you can order and experience a real old-fashioned ice cream soda, milk shake, or phosphate at an authentic antique soda fountain. If traveling Highway 14 south, consider stopping at the Visitor Center at Red Rock Canyon to learn more about the wonders of this fascinating geological site and walk a scenic trail.
