In winter the very busy skiing activity is concentrated at the two ski lifts, and that means that on all the ski outings on this trip you will have the mountain or the pass to yourselves. Choose early June for better snow conditions on Elbrus which can be hard blue ice in April-May. Four acclimatizing outings are done in the vicinity of the two glades, Cheget and Azau with their lifts (and the relaxed ski-resort type ambiance) to reduce the amount of walking with skis on your rucksack to the unavoidable minimum. The skiing is not excessively steep, but certainly you have to be a good skier on days 4 and 5. The two climbs, of Maly Donguzorun and Kogutai are easy. The skiing descent from Elbrus will demand good physical shape, rather than strong technique. On this trip you will be lodged at the best hotel of the Elbrus Area – the Ozone.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Mineralny Vody. Bus transfer (3.5-4hr) to the Ozone Hotel in the Baksan valley, the first one of the European standards. Features: heated swimming pool, access to telephone trunk line from rooms, access to Internet etc. Food: sumptuous Buffet breakfast, dinner with 3-4 dishes for choice, lunch-packets for outings. Hotel. Included: (L), (D).
Day 2: Bus transfer to Cheget Glade. Skiing ascent to Lozhny Donguzorun pass (3200m). Return to hotel. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 3: Bus transfer to Azau Glade. Skiing ascent to Ekho Voiny pass. Return to hotel. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 4: Bus transfer to Cheget Glade. Ski-ascent of Maly Donguzorun peak (3760m). Return to hotel. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 5: Bus transfer to Cheget Glade. Ski-ascent of Maly Kogutai peak (3780m). Return to hotel. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 6: Bus transfer to Azau Glade. Ascent to the "Bochki" huts (3750m). Huts. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 7: Acclimatizing outing to Pastukhov Rocks. Skiing back to the huts. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 8: Ascent of East summit, 5621m. Ski descent back to the huts. Huts. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 9: Reserve day (in case of bad weather). Hotel/Huts. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 10: Descent on skis and by cable-way to Azau Glade. Bus drive back to hotel. Hotel. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 11: Bus transfer to Mineralny Vody airport. Flight to Moscow. Included: (B), (L).
