Lake Huvsgul - The Blue Pearl of Asia: Lake Huvsgul, the second largest freshwater lake in the world after Lake Baikal in Buryatia, is popular for its pure water, awesome Alpine-like landscapes, wonderful wildlife and the different ethnic people living around it. Lake Huvsgul region is a destination in itself and an entire tour could be devoted to this specific part of Mongolia.
Khorgo-Terkh National Park is one of the most beautiful national parks in Mongolia with its crystal clear Terkh Lake and the Khorgo Volcano. The nature beauty is awesome here and is a great place for hiking, horse riding and relaxing. You can visit the Hell of Yellow Dog, Ice Hole and the Youth Cave that are pretty impressive!
The city of Karakorum: In 1220 great Chinghis Khaan declared it as the capital city of his vast Empire. Today there are many interesting sites left to visit; the legendary turtle rock sculptures, Buddhist stupas and the ruins of this once great city to name a few. Erdenezuu - the 1st Buddhist monastery in Mongolia was established in 1586. Today Erdenezuu monastery still shows its glory with collections of many priceless religious objects and incredibly beautiful Mongolian arts. It has a massive square wall, 420 meters in length each side, 108 Stupas & 17 temples.
The Gobi Desert is the most mysterious place on earth The Gobi invites you to reveal its secrets. This region is famous for its unique natural formations, many places where you can dig and find real dinosaur fossils, flora and fauna not found anywhere else in the world. There is plenty to photograph- impressive herds of gazelles & sightings of the rare Khulan (Asiatic wild ass).
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1 - Arrival in Ulaanbaatar, meet your tour guide & transfer to hotel, rest. Visit the Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of National History & the Sukhbaatar Square. Dinner, hotel overnight;
Day 2-3 - Pack the vehicles & depart to the north toward Lake Huvsgul, via Bulgan. Enjoy the wilderness and nature beauty. Tourist ger camp overnights;
Day 4-6 - Arrive and transfer to tourist ger camp by Lake Huvsgul. Visit the Tsaatan people, an ethnic minority of Mongolia. Hiking in mountains, along the lake shore. Meet Darkhad people-an ethnic minority of Mongolia. You also can go kayaking or horse riding. Full board and overnight at the tourist ger camp;
Day 7-8 - Drive to the stunning Khorgo-Terkh National Park via Jargalant village by the river Ider. Arrive at the Khorgo-Terkh National Park, transfer to ger camp by Khorgo Mountain. Full board & overnight at the ger camp;
Day 9 - Rest day in the Khorgo-Terkh. Hike to the Khorgo Volcano and visit the beautiful Lake Terkh, Ice Hole, Hell of the Yellow Dog etc interesting sites. Full board and overnight at the tourist ger camp;
Day 10-11 - Drive to Karakorum, 100 Branched tree, River Chuluut canyon, Taikhar Rock & Tsetserleg town. Visit legendary Erdene Zuu, ruins of Tumen Amgalant palace, Phallic stone, Turkic Tombs in the Orkhon River Valley. Full board & overnight at the ger camp;
Day 12-13 - Drive to the south to Ongi monastery ruins. Ongi Monastery was the biggest settlement in the southern Mongolia before 1937. Visit the Bayanzag, the most famous dinosaur site on earth. Explore for dinosaur remains, walk in the saxaul forest. You can even find real dinosaur bones and eggs yourself! Meals and overnight at tourist ger camps;
Day 14-16 - Early rising to witness the inspiring Gobi sun rise. Visit Khongoriin Els, the largest sand dunes of Mongolia. Optional climbing to the Singing dunes, hiking around etc. 2 day camel riding at the sand dunes. Visit the Yoliin Am in Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Meals & overnight at tourist ger camp;
Day 17 - Drive to Yoliin Am Gorge in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park, visit the narrow valley so called the Vulture's Gorge, hiking and viewing wild animals. Transfer to ger camp, dinner and overnight there;
Day 18-19 - We take the flight to Ulaanbaatar, transfer to Steppe Nomads camp in Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve. Admire the White Crane, Whooper Swan, Argali wild mountain sheep and other wildlife. Drive to Ulaanbaatar, transfer to hotel. Visit the Gandan Monastery, Palace Museum of Bogd Khaan, Buddha International Park & Zaisan memorial. Traditional folk concert. Dinner at a restaurant for the finest Mongolian food. Hotel overnight;
Day 20 - Transfer to the airport after breakfast.
