The Kherlen River is one of the biggest rivers in the Eastern Mongolia within the Pacific basin. 38 species of fish swim freely within the crystal clear waters of the Kherlen. The river takes its origin at the upper part of the Khentii mountain range and flows to the south first, and then gradually to the east and ultimately joins Dalai Lake in China. The river watershed area is 116455 km.sq and length of 1090 km in the territory of Mongolia. The River Kherlen area is full of migratory birds in summer and it is very beautiful to watch them in the early morning and evening. The river is a good place for all kinds of fishing: spinner, flyfishing etc. with its wonderful and rich species.
At one time, the world’s largest salmonid, the Taimen, lived in the rivers between Germany and the Pacific coast of Russia. Today, after centuries of poaching, pollution, and habitat destruction, the Taimen are making their last stand in Mongolia. Reaching weights of 200 pounds, the Taimen are one of the world’s premier freshwater sportsfishes. The Kherlen River has the Taimen in its water and this trip gives you a wonderful opportunity to encounter this mighty salmonid with much ease and without driving for hours and taking flights to the north.
Fishing at nights is a real challange for fishermen. The River Kherlen is an ideal place for night fishing as it is a quiet, steppe river. You will surely like the new experience of fishing at nights for Taimen and other fish. This trip gives you the greatest opportunities of not only catching various species of fish even taimen, but also of watching and photo hunting the rarest, endangered animals e.g. Argali-mountain wild sheep and birds such as White naped crane, Chinese pond heron and etc., from the closest distance.
