3 Day Two Rivers Float of Flathead River:

Description: Enjoy the wonders of both the North and Middle Forks of the Flathead River. This trips starts on the remote and scenic North Fork, and the first day is spent floating down remote upper sections of the river with spectacular views of the Livingston Range in Glacier National Park. Wildlife abounds in this area with possibilities of seeing Moose, deer, elk, bear and even the wolf pack that roams the North Fork Valley. We'll be camping by the rivers edge for both nights at Big Creek Campground, which is a developed site in the Flathead National Forest. The morning of the second day you'll be shuttled to the main whitewater section of the Middle Fork near West Glacier. This section has the most rapids of any portion of either river. After a day of splashy thrills we'll return to the Big Creek camp to be followed by the final day floating through the canyon of the lower North Fork. This is a great trip to enjoy both the remoteness and beauty of the North Fork with the exciting whitewater of the Middle Fork. Why float just one river when you can do two!

Day 1: Meet us at our office in West Glacier at 9:00 am. We will help you pack your gear for the trip, go over the details of the float and drive to the river put-in on the North Fork of the Flathead, south of Polebridge. We'll use the Coal Creek put-in unless the river is running high in which case we could go further up stream. Wildlife sightings of Moose, Deer, Bear and Wolves are not uncommon on this stretch. We'll have lunch along the rivers edge, and keep floating in the afternoon until we get to Big Creek Campground by about 5 in the afternoon.

Day 2: This morning after a hearty breakfast you'll be picked up and driven to the Middle Fork River to enjoy the splashy white water section through John Stevens Canyon. The rapids are rated class II and III with an occasional class IV in early June. After our exciting adventure you'll be picked up at the take out in West Glacier and driven back to Big Creek Campground for another fun night telling stories by the campfire.

Day 3: You'll be floating the lower stretch of the North Fork today through a couple of splashy rapids which will remind you of yesterday's excitement. You'll be picked up at the take out where the Middle and North Forks merge and be driven back to our office in West Glacier. Be sure to look at the pictures that were taken of you going through Bonecrusher Rapid the previous day on the Middle Fork. Return time will be around 4:30 PM.

3 Day Wilderness Float/Cabin Adventure:

Description: North Fork of the Flathead, 3 Day Wilderness Float/Cabin Adventure This three-day float goes down the remote "Wild and Scenic" North Fork of the Flathead River with overnight stays at rustic cabins along the route. Spend several days on an overnight river adventure while enjoying the comfort of a cabin at night. All meals, equipment, permits, transportation and guide service provided.

Day 1: You will meet us at our office in West Glacier at 9:00 am. We will help you pack your gear for the trip, go over the details of the float and drive to the river put-in on the North Fork of the Flathead, above Polebridge. We'll use the Ford Creek put-in unless the river is running high in which case we could go all the way to the Canadian border. This is the most remote and least floated river section in our area. Wildlife sightings of Moose, Deer, Bear and Wolves are not uncommon on this stretch. We'll have lunch along the rivers edge. The first night will be spent in the Polebridge Cabins. The town of Polebridge is a throwback to the days of old. This area is much like it was 100 years ago. There is a Mercantile and a Restaurant/Bar, which is located in a log cabin. Here at the Northern Lights Saloon is where we will dine and tell stories the first night.

Day 2: You'll be floating from Polebridge to Big Creek on the second day through the middle section of the North Fork. Everything on river left is Glacier National Park and on the right is Flathead National Forest. We generally never encounter any other rafts on these first two days, a true wilderness experience. The second night is spent in the cabins at the Big Creek Ecology Center. We'll be the only ones staying at this center and the instructors will provide a presentation on the ecology of the area. Dinner and breakfast are provided at the Big Creek facilities.

Day 3: The lower section of the North Fork flows through a beautiful canyon with some whitewater rapids along the way. The rapids are class 2 and 3 so nothing crazy, but fun and splashy water. We generally ride in paddle rafts so that everyone partakes in the action. Following the simple commands of the guide you'll actually become part of the crew maneuvering the raft. After we emerge from the canyon our vehicles will meet us at the take-out for the short shuttle back to our West Glacier office.

The North Fork of the Flathead is a favorite of the locals but a secret to most. All you need to show up with is your own clothing. We take care of all the details so you can just concentrate on the fun and beauty of the river.

Meeting Notes: Meet at 9 am at our West Glacier office. 2006 Departures: 7/6, 7/13, 7/27, 8/10, 8/17, 8/31
