Sardinia & Corsica have many faces and many names, but we like "the island of surprises" best--for despite their proximity, this seems to be the only feature they have in common. Take full advantage of two extraordinary islands rich in natural beauty, history and culture while participating in a variety of bike rides & excursions.
Day 1-2: Ride out to the Capo Caccia and visit the Grotta di Nettuno, the most beautiful sea caverns in Sardinia. Then, surrounded by the impressive medieval defense walls step back in time as you wander through the narrow cobbled streets of sandstone buildings of Alghero’s historical center.
The next day glide past small villages, wheat fields and wild flowers and into the intriguing Castelsardo, one of the islands best kept medieval monuments. Then visit the old monastery and the mysterious nuraghes.
Day 3-4: Explore Costa Smeralda"s enchanting rocky headlands and splendid beaches, bays; an oasis of natural beauty. Then ride within the Island of Maddalena, known for its beautiful pink sand, “faoni” crabs and mussels. Loop to the hilltop town of Tempio Pausania and learn about the fine handicraft, above all for the production of cork, weaving and the working of granite, and the production of Vermentino, wine tasting?
Days 5: Bonifacio:
Dolphins lead the way to Bonifacio, Corsica where immense coastal white walls whose layered formation juts out over us and as we port. Enjoy a spectacular bike ride through unspoiled “maquis” (brushland) and explore the lovely world renowned beaches at Piantarella and Santa Manza.
Days 6: The Island's Green Heart:
The "green heart" of the island offers a fantastic unique view of the seven-needled Col de Bavella and passes through lush, high pine forests and plateaus reminiscent of the French Alps. Then bike down through forests, vineyards and small villages to the stone village of Sartene and coastal paradise Propriano.
Days 7-9: Serene Coastal Riding:
A continual bellevue through evergreen hills and ancient villages to Filitosa, the island's most intriguing prehistoric site dating back to the megalithic period. Small, twisty roads bring us along the coast to the gorgeous little village of Porticcio.
