Medieval fortresses, villages, draw bridge castles, island towns, museums of Napoleon and Zeppelin, Europe’s largest waterfall and the castle which inspired Walt Disney: these are only a few of the highlights you'll explore on your eaily rides.
Day 1: Colorful Medieval Village: Colorful Medieval Village: We transfer from Zurich to an 11th century medieval town renowned for it's beautifully frescoed walls. Cycle along the Rhein to an ancient wooden bridge & return for sunset from the fortress above town. Activities include a ride on the miniature steam engine train that runs along a waterfront park.
Day 2: Interactive Aquarium: Along the Untersee bike past overlooking castles to small fishing villages and a 7th century Abbey and monastic island center. We then tour either or the very impressive and recently-constructed interactive aquarium where the full array of the lake & river's flora and fauna are on display or you may opt to tour the magical island of Mainau, a retreat that the Princes of Baden converted into a lush garden paradise.
ay 3: Prehistoric Settlement: Our bike trail leads through a medieval town with well-preserved moats & guard towers to a prehistoric lakeside dwelling on stilts dating 3500 BC. Here a hands-on exhibit allows visitors to witness and experience prehistoric life. Our destination, a medieval town with two castles, a large waterwheel and many colorful narrow alleyways, is better known for excellent white wine.
Day 4: Zeppelin Museum: The size of the lake is fully appreciated as we ride past the many vineyards to it's widest point. We make a stop at the home of the Zeppelin for a tour of this historically important flying machine. Then one of the lake's most unique castles is explored in the tiny picturesque islands of Wasserburg before we ride onto the medieval island of Lindau.
Day 5: The Castle that inspired Disney: Mad King Ludwig's creation of the multi-towered, fairy-tale, Neuschwanstein Castle is a "must see". So, we take a break from our bikes for an excursion through a spectacularly scenic region of Bavaria. After a guided tour of the castle that inspired Walt Disney to model the one he built for Sleeping Beauty we then have the option of visiting two of his other nearby creations or hike through this lush wooded environment.
Day 6: Three Countries in One Day: Easy lakeside riding through 3 countries in a matter of minutes is a moment always remembered, yet rarely in vivid detail. We ease our way through picturesque harbor towns before an excursion to the nearby mountain villages that typify traditional Swiss life. Sample cheese, pet cows and be amazed at the traditional way of life in this agrarian wonderland.
Day 7: Europe’s Largest Waterfall: We complete our journey around the lake with enough time to tour the Napoleon museum that was the residence of his stepdaughter and family. Our journey ends where the lake's waters flow into the Rhein and to Europe's largest waterfall, "The Rheinfall". Here you will be amazed by the power and may even wish to venture closer to it by boat before we return to our restored villa for a grand farewell dinner.
