Ever tried greek cherries, cherry marmelade and cherry sweet ? Ever picked cherries and cooked marmelade ? You can do so, and enjoy a wonderful holiday in the foothills of Mt.Taygetus. We will stay in a friendly top of the end guesthouse in a typical mountain village. Together with our host, Mrs Anna, we will go through the whole procedure of making cherry sweets from picking them up to storing them in vases. Who said that you can't have it all?? After your cherry tour relax and enjoy a 7 day yacht cruise to the Greek islands either on the Aegean Lady II or the H and B.
Your Itinerary:
Day 1: Monday – Athens. Arrival in Athens. Report to your hotel. Afternoon at leisure to stroll around in Old Athens -Plaka area- with plenty of taverns and shops. Overnight.
Day 2: Tuesday - Travel from Athens to Arna. Our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Athens and drive you to the village of Arna. (Driving time is about 3,5 hours). We will settle to our guesthouse and walk to the village square for our dinner. In the village square we will admire the biggest plane tree in Greece.
Day 3: Wednesday - Cherry pick up and preparation. After breakfast we will drive to the estate of the guesthouse where we will pick up the cherries and wash them in the cistern. We return to the guesthouse where we will take out the kernels in the traditional way and make all necessary preparations for the next days cooking. In the evening we can drive to the picturesque fish village of Gythio (45 minutes drive from our guesthouse).
Day 4: Thursday - Preparation of marmalade and cherry sweet. Today we will learn how to cook marmalade and the typical Greek cherry sweet. We will then can the products in vases and prepare labels. A perfect present for our friends back home. Early in the evening we return back to Athens. Overnight.
Day 5: Friday - Lavrion (Sounion). An indicative itenerary on the Aegean Lady. After a pre arranged time you will be picked up and transfer to the yacht. Embark the Yacht at Lavrion Welcome cocktail & dinner. Arrive in Tinos Overnight.
Day 6: Saturday - Tinos - Ios. Morning cruise to Ios. On the way swim stop & lunch. Arrive in Ios - the island of Homer. Visit the village. Lively nightlife. O/n.
Day 7: Sunday - Ios - Santorini. Cruise to Santorini: one of the highlights of the cruise. Optional tour around the island - visiting the Akrotiri excavations. Enjoy spectacular views. Dinner aboard, overnight in Santorini.
Day 8: Monday - Santorini – Paros. Morning sail to Paros - one of the most beautiful islands of the Cyclades. Lunch. Sightseeing. O/n.
Day 9: Tuesday - Paros – Naxos. Morning at leisure in Paros. After breakfast, sail for Naxos. Optional tour with visit to the churches and a giant-sized Kouros statue. O/n.
Day 10: Wednesday - Naxos – Mykonos. Sail for Mykonos - the most cosmopolitan island with dazzling white houses, excellent shopping & entertainments. Enjoy spectacular sunset and Greek dancing. Overnight.
Day 11: Thursday - Mykonos - Delos – Tinos. Morning sail to Delos - the sacred island of Apollo. Visit. Swim & lunch. Proceed to Tinos. Afternoon tour of the island. Overnight
Day 12: Friday - Tinos - Lavrion (Athens - Disembarkation). Early sail for Lavrion/ End of the trip. Transfer to Athens. Overnight.
Day 13: Saturday - End of services( if you wish you may take the four day classical tour on Sat morning and come back on Tuesday. Additional $495 per person on the top of your cherry love trip rate.
