Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Sofia. Airport-hotel transfer. Check–in. Panoramic city tour including the National Archaeological Museum, the National Theatre, Russian Church St. Nikola, the Parliament Square, Alexander Nevski Memorial Cathedral with the most valuable collection of Bulgarian Icons (13-19th c.), St. Sofia Church (6th c.), St. George Rotunda (4th c.), the National Palace of Culture. Overnight in Sofia.
Day 2: Breakfast. Visit to the Boyana Church, included in the UNESCO list of the World Heritage and considered herald of the European Renaissance. The genuine masterpieces of the 13th century painting, created 200 years ahead of the beginning of the Western European Renaissance, mark a remarkable peak in the Eastern Christian Art. Time at leisure. Overnight in Sofia.
Day 3: Breakfast. Departure for Pleven to see the spectacular Panorama Monument. Continue to the Ivanovo Rock Monasteries (UNESCO). This is where the first hermits had dug out their cells and churches during the 12th century. The 14th-century murals testify to the exceptional skills of the artists. Departure for Ruse - the greatest and the most important Bulgarian town on the Danube river, known also as “Little Vienna” because of its ancient architecture. Overnight in Ruse.
Day 4: Breakfast. The tour continues to Sveshtari Thracian Tombs Complex renowned for its extraordinary decoration. Departure for Varna with visits to Pliska – the first capital of Bulgaria, and the Madara Horseman National Preserve (UNESCO) en route. Overnight in Varna.
Day 5: Breakfats. City tour of Varna - a place inhabited still before the Greeks established the colony of Odessos there in c. 580 B.C. Of particular interest are the National Revival Museum, the Ethnographic and the City Historical Museum, the Art Gallery, the Navy Museum and the Aquarium, the Natural History Museum, the Zoo and the Dolphinarium, the Sea Gardens,17th century Cathedral of the Holy Mother, and the 2nd century Roman thermae. Time at leisure. Overnight in Varna.
Day 6: Breakfast. Departure towards Nessebar. Tour in the old part of Nessebar (UNESCO) - one of the oldest towns in Europe, well known for its impressive monuments from the time of Antiquity, its fascinating medieval architecture of the Middle Ages, and the National Revival period. Continue to Burgas. Overnight in Burgas.
Day 7: Breakfast. Departure for Veliko Tarnovo – the medieval capital of Bulgaria. Tour of Veliko Tarnovo town with visit to the medieval fortress of Tsarevets; the Old Marketplace, Samovodska Tcharshia; and other exciting landmarks. Overnight in Veliko Tarnovo.
Day 8: Breakfast. Departure towards the Valley of Roses. En route – stop to feel the unique atmosphere in the Etara open air museum of authentic traditional crafts, created to preserve the appearance and the spirit of the old time Bulgarian mountain villages and the manufacturing traditions of this region for the future generations. Continue through Shipka Mountain Pass, which provides admirable mountain views. Visit the Memorial Church of Shipka town, erected after Bulgaria’s Liberation from Ottoman rule, as a gesture of gratitude to both Russian and Bulgarian soldiers that died in the fierce battles there. Visit to the Museum of Roses and the ancient Thracian Tomb (UNESCO) in Kazanlak. Overnight in Kazanlak.
Day 9: Breakfast. Departure for Plovdiv. Tour of the Old Town of the city - an imposing open-air museum situated on the three hills of the ancient Trimontium. Visit to the Ancient Theatre (a well-preserved Roman amphitheatre), the Ethnographic Museum, and other interesting sites. Overnight in Plovdiv.
Day 10: Breakfast. Departure for the Rila Monastery - the most famous and fascinating monastery in Bulgaria, under the UNESCO protection. Tour of the monastery and visit to the monastery church, museum, and kitchen, known as Magernitsa. Arrival in Sofia. Overnight.
Day 11: Breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Departure.
