Simply stated, the Maze is like nothing else. Legends of the old west tell stories of outlaws escaping into its wildly remote and inaccessible canyons. Our ride begins atop the Orange Cliffs with distant views of snow-capped mountains and a glimpse of the rugged terrain we'll soon encounter. Our two-night stay at the Maze Overlook will convince you there is not a more beautiful spot anywhere.

The riding is as fun as anything you might find on Moab's classic trails. Both tours provide a full day of hiking through the heart of the Maze and past the Chocolate Drops formation. The six day tour allows time for a hike to the Great Gallery, a world-renowned example of ancient "Barrier Canyon" rock art. The final day's ride ends at Lake Powell with an opportunity for a well deserved swim.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: The Maze Tour meets in Green River, Utah located along Interstate 70 northwest of Moab. We meet at the Best Western River Terrace on the I-70 business loop at 8:00a.m. You will want to have had breakfast before meeting. At the Best Western we will load all the gear and bikes onto the support vehicle and shuttle to the start of the tour.

The ride begins at the Hans Flat Ranger Station after a brief meeting with a Park Ranger. Our first ride takes us along the top of the Orange Cliffs, down the Flint Trail and out to The Maze Overlook, one of the most stunning views in Canyon lands National Park and our campsite for the next 2 nights. Miles today total 28.

Once camp is set, your work is done! The guides will take care of all the details from setting up lawn chairs with hors d'oeuvre and the drink cooler nearby, to cooking up a healthy delicious meal. Wash basins are available for clean- up and a solar shower is usually available for 1or 2 evening during the trip. It's your time to relax, whether it's lounging around camp with our library of books or setting out for a hike to explore your surroundings. Includes: (L), (D).

Day 2: We will spend the day hiking into the maze of canyons below. The trail from camp drops 600 feet into the heart of this country. Our hike leads us to a fascinating "wall" of rock art called "The Harvest Scene left by American Indians" at least 2000 years ago. There is a riding option for anyone who doesn't wish to hike. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 3: After a hot and hearty breakfast, we'll resume our ride towards Sunset Pass and down to camp below Teapot Rock, about 25 miles away. Near Sunset Pass we will find petrified logs and possibly arrowheads. There are wonderful views of Hatch Canyon that lead to The Dirty Devil River. After dinner you may take a short hike under the moonlight or gaze to the sky to view the countless stars. Because this area is so remote, on clear nights it's easy to spot shootings stars, planets, satellites and the Milky Way. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 4: Day 4 is an out and back exploration to the Land of Standing Rocks with the option of exploring the Doll's House if conditions permit. This is the most technical riding of the tour with terrain that includes short but technical climbs and descents. However, since this is an "out and back" ride you may ride as far as you wish. You may also hike or rest today. The riding totals 12-35 miles with hiking options. We'll camp in the same location, Teapot Canyon. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 5: Our final day takes us on a 35 mile ride out of the Maze to Hite, at the north tip of Lake Powell. The route is a rolling and winding jeep road with new vistas around every bend. From Hite we'll shuttle back to your cars in Green River, arriving between 5:00 - 6:00 P.M.

Rim Tours will arrange to leave your vehicles in Green River for the duration of the tour. You'll need to bring a hydration pack, day pack or fanny pack with enough room to carry 2 large water bottles, camera, lunch and extra clothing. If bringing a hydration pack, we recommend the equivalent size of camel back's Mule or Hawg pack. Includes: (B), (L).
