Day 1: Pick up at Kilimanjaro International Airport, (KIA), drive to Arusha, stay at Impala Hotel.
Day 2: After an early breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park for a half day game drive. Witness the large movement of animals (especially elephants) into the park from their migration habitat in Lake Manyara National Park. They leave the park during wet season and come back to the park in dry season. After lunch, drive to Lake Eyasi game controlled area. Stay at Lake Eyasi Bushmen camp, our cook will prepare dinner and we'll sleep under the stars beside the camp fire as we'll do throughout the trip. (May use specially designed mosquito nets)
Day 3: After breakfast, visit the Hadza (Bushmen). This nomadic tribe sleeps under the trees and eats through hunting and gathering. Take time to shoot bow and arrow and go hunting with them in the evening. Stay with the Hadza for at night in the bush, this will be backpack style camping where we prepare our own food.
Day 4: Wake up early in the morning to hunt with the Bushmen before sunrise. Afterwards, follow them out and say goodbye. Hike back to our vehicles and drive to Endamaghay ranger post, drop there and start walking along Endamaghay River to the base of the rift valley gorge, we will have our food supply car with us this far.
Day 5: After breakfast, prepare for a long trek. Carry everything on our backs (including charcoal or MSR stoves). We can also carry water or arrange for donkeys to bring us water from Ngorongoro and meet us at the top of rift valley gorge. Stay in the bush this night. Alternate option: Stay with vehicles for more game drives. Base camp at Missigiyo and meet up with hikers there.
Day 6: After breakfast, walk to Missigiyo campsite where we'll meet our vehicles and our cook for some coffee and lunch. Next drive into the Ngorongoro crater for animal viewing-guaranteed sighting of the big three, but a good chance to see the big five. The scenery is incredible. Return to Missigiyo private campsite for the night.
Day 7: Spend another day in the Ngorongoro crater, this time very early in the morning to increase the chances of finding nocturnal animals like the leopard. Visit some of most remote parts of the crater before other vehicles arrive. After a late lunch, leave for a Maasai village visit, where there could be an option of slaughtering a goat, roasting the meat, and feasting with the Maasai warriors in the bush. Spend the night again under the stars in the Maasai community.
Day 8: After breakfast, get in to the vehicles and drive for about half an hour to crater descent gate, drop off the cars, put our packs on and start walking for two days. The first night will be spent on the rim of the crater, in the Layanai forest. This area has a high population of elephants and buffaloes. If the weather is calm you can hear roaring lions in the crater. Alternate option: Day hike on crater rim and return to vehicles.
Day 9: Another day in the forest near Lemala along the crater rim. Camp in the detritus of old flat-topped acacia trees. Alternate option: Layover day at base camp with possibility for additional game drives or day hikes.
Day 10: Awake early to bird songs and hike to meet our vehicles. Drive to Embulbul depression, and start hiking again with small day packs, to the rim of Empakai crater, we will have our cook arrange a dinner at camp that night so we'll have time to listen to the strange sound of flamingos migrating to other soda lakes.
Day 11: After breakfast, descend into Empakai crater, a very beautiful "bowl" of nature, containing the deepest soda lake in the world. Get a chance to approach the pink cloud of flamingos, just ten meters away, before ascending to the rim and walking to acacia camp.
Day 12: Descend on foot to the rift valley gorge and meet our vehicles at the base of the active volcanic mountain of Oldoinyo Lengai, the Maasai's mountain of God. From there, drive to Lake Natron camp for a good hot lunch, a cold coke or beer, and a nice shower. Stay in campground.
The same day, for those who wish to, at around 23:00, leave for an ascent of Oldoinyo Lengai. The summit can be reached at around 5:30 - 6:00. Tour the bubbling volcanic crater for about an hour, and then descend back to the camp by 12:00 noon (13th day). Drive to Arusha and stay at Impala hotel.
Day 14: Do some shopping/touring in Arusha and prepare for an evening departure.
