Lions grazing in the upper branches of trees, hippos bathing lazily in the kazinga channel and antelopes’ horns clashing in a bid to protect their territories are just some of the interesting sights at Queen Elizabeth National Park. This park is home to some of the widest variety of mammals and birds of any game reserve in the world. Covering approximately 1978 sq km, this park lies on the floor of the Western Rift Valley. It runs from the foot hills of the snow capped mountains of Mt. Rwenzori - which have also been named the mountains of the moon because they rise to the enormous height of 16,000 ft - to the Ishasha border post in the South.
If you would like to see a wide variety of habitats then Queen Elizabeth National Park is the place to go. The habitats range from Savannah grassland, wetlands ravine, lowland forests, rainforest, dense papyrus swamps to brooding crater lakes. With such a wide variety of climates it is no wonder that the park houses over 611 recorded bird species not to mention the other forms of wild life that exist.
