Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: La Paz – Rurrenabaque – Mapajo. A 55-minute flight to Rurrenabaque over the Cordillera Real and the Amazon lowlands. Transfer to Rurrenabaque’s port to depart up the Beni and Quiquibey rivers in a dugout canoe to the Mapajo Ecolodge. This river trip takes around 3 hours, passing through the spectacular Cañón del Bala (Bala Gorge). For dinner we will have delicious feast. Includes: (L, D).
Day 2: Mapajo. Breakfast. Boat ride on the Quiquibey River, walk along the Macaw Trail, as we look for these beautiful birds, and possibly monkeys and other terrestrial fauna. In the afternoon return to the lodge. Optional tour at night to see caymans, frogs, and nocturnal wildlife. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 3: Mapajo- Asunción del Quiquibey. Today we will visit the community of Asunción del Quiquibey, where locals will show us how to make arrows for fishing and hunting, also knit baskets and fans, process sugar cane and peel rice in a traditional way. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 4: Mapajo – La Paz. The return trip down-river takes about one and a half hours. Transfer to the airport and flight to La Paz. Includes: (B).
