Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: La Paz-Higher Base Camp. Departure at 9:30 am. The ride will show unique views of La Paz City, and some of the highest peaks in Bolivia such as the Illimani, Mururata, Huayna Potosí, and others reaching 5,000 m. The trip continues through the unpaved road to the Zongo Valley, one of the closest cloud forest or yungas from La Paz. There will be two short stops, at the Milluni Lagoon and nearby abandoned tin mine.
Arrival and lunch at the Lower Base Camp (4,700 m). Later, the slow 2-hour climb to the Higher Base Camp will start until 5,250 m. This slow climb will condition you for the next day. Warm light dinner and early sleep in tents. Includes: (L, D).
Day 2: High Base Camp - Huayna Potosí Summit - La Paz. Breakfast at 2:00 am. We will stat a slow ascension in the dark using flashlights at 3:00 am, to avoid the later intense snow reflection. The ascension will be grade 2 (or 45 degree-slope climb) and will take around 6 hrs, expecting to reach the summit by 9:00 am. Sunrises at the Huayna Potosí hills are astonishing.
In clear days you can have spectacular 360-degree views of the snow peaks of the Cordillera Real and the distant Sajama Volcano; the highest peak in Bolivia. You also will see the steaming cloud forest or yungas, and La Paz City. Later descent from the summit to the Higher Base Camp will take around 3 hrs. Lunch will be by 1:00 pm at the Lower Base Campo. Trip back to La Paz at 4 pm.
