As a volunteer in Costa Rica, you will have the chance to immerse yourself in a unique and vibrant culture that provides an ideal environment for fostering cultural understanding and working with the local community. We have three program sites in Costa Rica - Cartago, San Carlos, and Puriscal.
In Costa Rica, the stunningly beautiful geography and weather is overshadowed only by the beauty and warmth of its people -- the emphasis on community and family is truly awe-inspiring. Volunteers are privileged to work side-by-side with and learn from the local people.
Our volunteers work at a Partner Program, a locally-designed and driven initiative. Our in-country staff forms partnerships with these organizations, working together so the volunteers can contribute to the work of the organization. These may be orphanages and childcare centers, schools, health clinics and hospitals, homes for the elderly, centers for people with disabilities, and other community organizations.
In Costa Rica, your volunteer placement may be:
- caring for infants and children
- teaching children
- teaching English
- assisting teachers
- sharing your professional skills/experience
- caring for the elderly
- caring for people with disabilities
- working with people affected by HIV/AIDS
- assisting teachers of special education
- working towards women's empowerment
Building on your volunteer work in San Carlos, Costa Rica, cultural and learning activities include Spanish classes, interaction with guest speakers on topics such as community activism and Costa Rican history, and visits to the natural wonders that create the lush scenery of Costa Rica. All volunteers have the weekends and most evenings free to relax or explore Costa Rica.
We also have 1-12 week programs in Brazil, China, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Morocco, Peru, Russia, South Africa, Tanzania, and Thailand. Choose from over 200 start-dates.
