There is so much more to Guyana than its "many waters". This little known, undiscovered, natural world is also home to many of the largest species of birds and wildlife known to man... It is home to the giant anteater, the giant otter, the mighty harpy eagle, the giant arapaima fish, mighty rivers - Essequibo being 21 miles wide, one of the tallest sheer drop waterfall in the world - Kaieteur Falls. The trip focuses on wildlife viewing and safaris and takes you on a journey into Guyana's deepest jungles and pristine rain forests. Visit Guyana's known turtle and jaguar habitats and come away with a feeling of satisfaction.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive Guyana. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel, the Ariantze Hotel , located in the center of the Capital Georgetown.

Day 2: City tour. This morning you will enjoy a tour of the city. Many of the buildings are wooden with unique architecture dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries and Main Street provides several excellent examples of old colonial homes. The most famous building is St George's Cathedral, one of the world's tallest free-standing wooden buildings.

Day 3: Kaieteur Falls. After breakfast take a flight to Kaieteur and Orinduik Falls. The Kaieteur Falls are one of the world's natural wonders, where the waters of the Potara River flow over a sandstone conglomerate tableland into a deep gorge - a drop of 741 feet or 5 times the height of Niagara Falls. There are no other falls in the world with the magnitude of the sheer drop existing at Kaieteur. Afternoon return to hotel.

Day 4: Iwokrama. You will be transferred to Ogle Airstrip for a flight across the rainforest and savannah to Annai. Transfer to Iwokrama Rainforest Reserve. The Centre was established to promote the conservation, sustainable and equitable utilization of tropical rainforest in a manner that leads to lasting ecological, economic and social benefits. One the first day you will be free to explore the trails around the field station with an Iwokrama Ranger. Accommodation is in timber cabins under thatched roofs, on the banks of the Essequibo River, each cabin has it's own bathroom facilities, and meals are served in the main dining hall.

The Iwokrama forest is rapidly gaining in international reputation for its healthy jaguar population that seem not to be troubled by the appearance of curious humans. It takes an hour to walk up the mountain, but the effort is more than worth it for the breathtaking views over the forest canopy when you get there. The rest of the afternoon will be spent setting up camp and exploring the area near to the Turtle Mountain Satellite Camp. This is a well-known area for its jaguar population.
