Cerro Blanco Sand Dune is located between the Coastal and the high Andes, considerate the highest sand dune in the world. Cerro Blanco (2070m) is the only sand dune surrounded by the brown and rocky mountain, two large valley located on the south and north side. In the Incas time was considerate sacred place where they did offering to the “Apus” (mountains), today Cerro Blanco is a perfect sand dune to practice Sandboard, Dune Buggy, Paragliding, Atv´s tours, Downhill mountain bike, Trekking and Camping on the sand slopes. We are the first travel agency running adventure tours supporting the environment, flora and fauna of this dune.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Nasca - Sol De Oro - Cerro Blanco Base Camp. At 8am pick up from the hotel and journey by the road to Cusco, on the way stop at Los Paredones ruins, and Nasca culture time where complex of urban and ceremonial rooms dedicated to the sun good, all than constructed with adobe and rocks. On the next stop enter to the aqueducts, also build by the Nasca civilization and considerate the most development hydraulic engineering of all the old Peruvian cultures. Continue driving will pass the abandoned gold mining company, named “sol de oro” (Gold sun) located 11km away from Nasca. After 11/2 hours arrival to the trailhead (km23), from here 3 hours climb following single track through small hill and canyons.
At 2pm arrive to the base camp (1900m), located on the southeast face of Cerro Blanco. Set up the tents, lunch and free afternoon to walk around or practice sandboard. Diner covered with starry sky on the middle of nothing.
Day 2: Cerro Blanco Summit - Taruga Valley - Nasca. Today breakfast will be at 6am with best sunshine over our head, after packing our stuff climb to the summit. Here we rest, and are given sandboarding instructions. You can practice on the small dune trying several techniques of the board until we are ready to go downhill Sandboarding on the Taruga valley. After one our feeling the adrenaline and amazing falls will reach and other type of terrain (rocky), continue descending entering to coastal weather. Taruga is other valley located on the south of Nasca, valley covered by algarrobo trees (Huatango) where is possible to observe 56 type of birds from the coast, some time is possible to see the Andean condors, there are use to be travel to the pacific ocean looking for food.
At 2pm arrival to point where will be waiting our private van to drop us to Nasca. Time to enjoy a lovely swimming pool and the best food in city. This is the end of our service.

Rain Season: Some cloud days between January to March, but no rain because this sand dune is located on the driest coastal area.
Best Time for Climb: All the year.
Advice for Climbers: To have minimum physical conditions and summer clothes. One day before all the climbers will have meeting with the mountain guide at our office or in the hotel, who will give a briefing about this climb and also you can check the quality of the climb gear will be used on the mountain.
What You Need to Bring/Carry:
- Backpack 50Lt minimum
- Sleeping bag 0Cº (can be hired from our office for US$5 per day, in Nasca)
- Windproof jacket
- Strong comfortable and waterproof boots
- One complete change of clothing
- Sweater and thermal pants (something warm)
- 4Lt of water minimum per person
- Flashlight and batteries
- Hat or cap to protect you from the sun
- Sun block (sun protection cream)
- Toilet paper
- Selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits, etc
- Camera, plenty of film and spare batteries
- Binoculars
- Your personal first aid kit
- Walking sticks or poles
Porters will cost US$20 us dollars per day, to carry your personal items. You will need to carry with you a daypack with your Camera, bottle of water, snacks, a fleece or something warm and anything you will need before lunch as porters do not walk alongside you. Your bag will be waiting for you in your tent at campsites.
Please note there are fines if you give an excess of 18 kgs so try to underpack rather than overpack. You can hire a porter in our office of Nasca to carry your pack over the base camp.
