China has rewritten the world's history of railway construction with its completion of the world's highest railway, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, on the roof of the world. The railway has greatly helped bring closer Tibet and the rest of the world and facilitate Travelers access Tibet easily.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Beijing. Upon arrival in Beijing, the capital city of China, you will be met by your English speaking guide and transferred to Qianmen Jianguo Hotel or similar for a 3 nights stay. Relax or explore the city at your own.
Day 2: Beijing. The wonderful Beijing tour begins with Tienanmen Square, then the Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum. Lunch is served at a fine local Chinese restaurant. In the afternoon visit the Summer Palace, the imperial summer resort during the Qing Dynasty. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 3: Beijing. After breakfast, head for Juyongguan Pass to hike the Great Wall, one of the greatest wonders in the world. Then continue to the Ming Tombs via passage of the Sacred Way. The Ming Tombs are renowned for their imperial history and serve as the resting place for 13 of the 16 Ming Emperors. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 4: Beijing. Today's highlights includes a visit to the Lama Temple, Beijing Zoo and exploring the Hutong (residential area) with rickshaw and have a glimpse of traditional Beijing life. Go for some shopping in the afternoon at the famous Silk Markets. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 5: Beijing - Xian. Transferred to the airport for a morning flight to another historical city, Xian. Upon arrival in Xian, met by your local guide and transferred to a local Chinese restaurant for lunch. In the afternoon you will pay a visit to the famous Bell Tower and Great Mosque in the Muslim Quarters. Enjoy a Chinese Dumpling Dinner (Jiaozi) and Tang Dynasty Cultural Show in the evening. Overnight at Xian Hotel or similar. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 6: Xian. Today you will visit the Terracotta Warriors Museum. The thousands of life sized warriors and horses were first discovered in 1974 and are one of the most significant archaeological excavations of the 20th century. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 7: Xian - Xining. Half day tour to the City Wall and big Goose Pagoda, after lunch you will be transferred to the airport for a flight to Xining. Upon arrival in Xining, met and transferred to Qinghai hotel or similar. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 8: Xining to Lhasa by train. Today we have a full day tour to Qinghai Lake and the Sun and Moon Mountain. After dinner you board the over night train for your journey to Lhasa(ETD 20:07). The Cabins are pressurized and double glazed for the comfort of the passengers as it ascends into the high altitude of Tibet. Overnight on the train soft sleepers. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 9: Lhasa. Today you traverse the highest train pass in the world at over 5000m. Enjoy the scenery of Jagged mountain peaks caped in ice and the permanently frozen Tibetan Plateau. Today you will manage the meals on the train at your own. You can have meals in the dining car or prepare food ahead of boarding. Upon arrival in Lhasa (ETA 22:30) you will be met by local guide and transferred to Tibet Hotel or similar. Have a good night sleep to acclimatize to the high altitude in preparation for your sightseeing next day.
Day 10: Lhasa. Today you will take a guided tour to the immense Potala Palace, Jokhang Monastery (the spiritual heart of the city) and Barkhor street to mingle in the crowds and enjoy the market activity. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 11: Lhasa. After breakfast pay a visit to the Norbulingka Monastery (the former summer residence of the Dalai Lama) and Drepung Monastery - considered one of the three pillars of The Tibetan State. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 12: Lhasa to Chengdu. Trasfered to the airport for the morning flight to Chengdu - Home of the Giant Panda. Upon arrival in Chengdu you will be met and transferred to Anguo Hotel or similar. The rest of the day is yours to relax after your Tibetan experience. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 13: Chengdu to Shanghai. This morning you visit the Giant Panda Breeding Base and the Sanxingdui Museum. After lunch fly to Shanghai - China's most prosperous city. Upon arrival transferred to Hotel General or similar. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 14: Shanghai. After breakfast you will visit the Bund, Shanghai Museum (one of the best museums in China), fabulous Yu Gardens and the Bazaar. This evening enjoy a farewell banquet followed by an amazing acrobatic show! Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 15: Depart Shanghai. Free in the morning till being transferred to the airport for your flight home or the next destination. Includes: (B).
