These special sojourns are for those who seek experiences of cycling and touring in a responsible manner that leads to sustainable development in the areas we cycle through. We enjoy cycling in areas that are as little-touristed as possible and where the local people have rarely met westerners, but which have enough facilities to make the trip as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.
We visit places where Tourists don't go and haven't been destroyed by commercial tourism. So you will have the opportunity to experience the Real Viet Nam , the friendliness and warm hospitality of the Vietnamese people.
The Tam Hanks Group will do our best to make your trip as safe and enjoyable as possible. Your health concerns will be well looked after, the bicycles well-maintained and we will do everything possible to make your journey a memorable one. You will see a world that very few others, including guidebook writers, have ever seen.
NO SINGLE CYCLIST, PLEASE !
Tour Itinerary:
Please note: This is a suggested itinerary. We are quite flexible: you may create an itinerary according to your own interests. Just tell us your travel plans according to your scheduled, we will be more than happy to assist you with this and work with you to make your trip with our company an enjoyable and memorable one!
Day 1: Transfer from the HCM Airport to the Mekong Delta town of Cao Lanh. We use the Van due to the heavy traffic and also the area is being built up. We will use the 4 hours to get to know each other and for the orientation to Cycling With The tam Hanks Group, and for the first vietnamese meal on the road. Sleep at a 2 stars hotel in Cao Lanh.
Day 2: In the morning cycle to Xeo Quit (30-km), a re-creation of National Liberation Front (NLF) HQ during the war. In the afternoon - transfer to the charming river town of Hong Ngu. We will take the Voi Lua ferry and cycle to Hong Ngu via the Holy Religious areas, crossing the rivers 3 times (45-km). Enjoy an evening out door after our delicious Delta food super. Sleep in Hong Ngu - the border town between Vietnam and Cambodia.
Day 3: Visit Long Khanh Island, a small island (12-km circumference) in the Mekong River. It is very rustic and beautiful. We can cycle or go by bicycle-pulled carriage. The people are fantastic. Nice pagodas, both Cao Dai sect and some very old Vietnamese Buddist temple that was built between 17th-18th century. Then the van will transfer us to another T-junction to cycle to Cho Moi via Tay island (20-km). Due to the small ferry, the van can not go along with us. The van will meet us at Cho Moi, where we will have lunch. After lunch, we will take a small road to the ferry to Long Xuyen (28-km), where we will spend the night.
Day 4: Cycle 58-km to Tri Ton, in the magical Seven Mountains area, a nice change from the flat delta countryside. Ride 23-km after lunch to the shrine of the Viet Nam 'Killing Fields' by Khmer Rouge invaders in April 1978 at Ba Chuc Village. Transfer then to Can Tho. Sleep at a pleasant resort.
Day 5: Visit a less-touristed Floating Market by private boat, then transfer back to either Ho Chi Minh City or to Chau Doc - The border town between Vietnam and Cambodia (for those who want to head to Cambodia). The journey through the Delta to Hcmc takes roughly 5-6 hours, crossing the Australian My Thuan Brige over the Mekong River. Sleep either at a hotel in Hcmc or in Chau Doc.
While doing tour with us, we will combine some extra activities such as: Jungle walk, Mud bath, fishing trip, river tour, depending on our itineraries (no extra charge) and transport scheduled within our sojourns.
