Tour Itinerary
Day 1: The Camargue - White horses, black bulls, salt pans, rice fields and flamingos. The Camargue is the delta of the river Rhone and has something amazing to show at every turn. Coffee in the shadow of the Roman amphitheatre in Arles and lunch in the perfectly preserved medieval seaside fortress of Aigues Mortes.
Day 2: Mont Ventoux - Made famous by the tour de France cycle race it towers above Provence with its white-capped peak of pure granite. A fabulous alpine climb through the forests and a view across France from the top. Lavender fields make the trip there a sensory delight.
Day 3: The Ardeche Gorge - Coffee at the Pont du Gard roman acqueduct then a great day of long smooth roads through the hills to the Gorge with its natural stone bridge and Grand Canyon-like vistas.
Day 4: Cote de Rhone vineyards - Chateauneuf-du-Pape is the centre of the tour but the spectacular vineyards build around the rocky landscape make this a beautiful relaxed days riding.
Day 5: The Luberon - made famous by Peter Mayle in "A year in Provence", we visit the 'Hanging villages" which perch on the hillsides and look like everone dreams they should. Friday is market day in Lourmarin, the prettiest village in the whole world so browsing and buying is almost compulsory.
