Mexico - a kaleidoscope of cultures, cuisines, landscapes, music, art and history. To mention Mexico conjures up visions of rain forests, tropical beaches, vast deserts, bustling city streets and sleepy villages.
On this 14 day exploratory bike adventure we explore the Baja Peninsular, a land of sun tortured deserts, wild sierras and surreal rock formations; Baja’s wide open spaces will capture your imagination.
Our trip begins in the bustling city of La Paz and follows dirt roads and 4x4 tracks through a landscape of giant cactus and desert. Try kite surfing or sea-kayaking in azure blue seas, visit colonial missions and ranches and experience this amazing region, people and culture in the best way possible - by bike.
Escape Exploratory Trips
When we create a new trip in a new destination we spend time working with small local businesses to develop an itinerary, one that fits with our concepts of a great biking adventure and gets us into the most awesome parts of the country we visit. Then we lead the new trip for the first time as an exploratory trip, trying out new restaurants and accommodations and testing out some of the biking routes for the first time.
Joining us on an exploratory trip gives you the opportunity to help us refine and shape the trip, find and rate restaurants and café’s and make new friendships with the people we meet along the way while helping us create another great Escape Adventure.
What is the biking like? 11 days biking - 90% on dirt and 4x4 roads, 10% single track. While most of the riding on this trip is non-technical, there are some challenging parts so some off road/mountain biking experience will help.
A good level of fitness will add to the enjoyment of your trip. From 25km to 60km per day. Total distance approximately 450 km.
The Basic Lo-Down. We travel between Nairobi in Kenya and Dar es Salaam on the Indian Ocean coast in Tanzania. 100% vehicle supported. Our trusty support vehicle carries all your luggage, helps you up those hills (if you like) and always has lunch, snacks and water at hand. Group size minimum 4, maximum 10; plus Escape leaders and local crew. Accommodation is twin share - 5 nights hotel, 3 nights simple cabins, 5 nights camping (Upgrades to rooms are available at some campsites at your own expense). Food includes 3 meals per day from evening day 1 to breakfast day 14, except for 4 evening meals which are at your own expense to give you the opportunity to experience local cuisine of your own choosing.
