Experience a journey into the depths of your own soul. A short excursion that could change your life. Homo Sapient has always been seeking peace, but where? The pressures and stress in our lives and daily routines, evoke the incessant question, why? Yet, we have to continue - again, why? Is it really survival, or simply an endless race towards some imagined material gain, status and position? Take a break, find yourself! Be humbled for a short while, when standing next to the oldest living plant specimens on earth; see the conditions under which other life-forms must survive; do you feel you are the only living being having to ward off the knocks in life? Don't! We invite you to come and witness how the most extreme conditions of life, are joyously expressed in the timeless Namib Desert.
Maybe you are trying to recover from a recent - or older - traumatic experience in your life, or maybe you simply feel "caged in" by the pressures and dull routine of life in general? Whatever your personal reasons might be, don't allow it to become the Master of your life - a d a p t! No better place to meet the masters of adaptation than in the Namib Desert, after all, these life forms have had Millennia in which to perfect the art. The Namib has taught us - there is peace! Come and experience it for yourself on this short, revitalizing safari. Your host will meet you at Namibia's International airport and whisk you off into the wide open spaces and unpolluted air.
After a one-night rest in our Capital City, Windhoek, to relax and acclimatize to Namibia, you travel through the central highlands of Namibia and descend into the desert to arrive at the first of your desert accommodations. Discover a desert lodge on a gentle slope in the landscape. From your veranda you will be able to look out over Earth's own Sea of Tranquility - almost as if you can see tomorrow arriving on the horizon. The presence of ancient rock art in this area came as a surprise to many a scientist, the Namib was never considered to have been hospitable to early human inhabitants - more proof of adaptation. In a circular drive along a valley between the Naukluft- and Tsaris Mountains, spend 2 nights within a "private", secluded valley.
Moving further south towards the southern section of the Namib, view and climb some of the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei, and witness the unbelievable shifting of the color spectrum across the landscape as the sun rises. Then change scenery again to move right down to a lone sentinel, guarding the wide expanse of lower sand dunes, mountains and savannas in solitary grandeur - the Tiras Mountains - probably the most photogenic region of the Namib. End you Namib desert safari with a two-night sojourn at a nature camp where you may join a sundowners drive in this pristine wilderness, plus 4X4 excursion and hike into a nearby mountain. Because the reason that brought you here in the first place, is forcing you to return, we will try to make your transition back to civilization as gradual as possible. Instead of returning to the City of Windhoek, you will spend your last night at a Game Lodge en-route to the airport.
Your Itinerary
DAY 1: Meet your host at Namibia's International airport. Transfer to Windhoek for a quick tour of its sights and sounds. Settle into a comfortable B&B to relax from the long flight and acclimatize to Namibia.
DAYS 2 - 3: No particular rush this morning, sleep in a little if you wish, and enjoy a leisurely breakfast while shaking off the worst jet-lag. Travel directly to the Khomas Hochland (our central highlands), and descend into the Namib towards the first of your desert venues. Tranquility, breath-taking views and quality are all guarantees during your two-night visit. Besides joining a 4X4 excursion to view ancient rock paintings, there are no less than 10 well-marked walking trails - each presenting a new and more impressive panorama than the one before.
DAY 4: Moving through the shadow of the Naukluft Mountains, be on the lookout for Hartmann's Mountain Zebra. This Reserve, originally proclaimed to protect them, is now part of the Namib-Naukluft Park. After crossing over the Tsaris Pass, arrive at a desert homestead in the valley between the Tsaris- and Naukluft Mountains.
DAYS 5 - 6: After a circular drive - and again descending from the escarpment - arrive in a secluded, "private" valley where you may truly find yourself during the next two nights. Peace & quiet not thought possible by the world at large. Maybe some of the Meerkats are still around to accompany you on your walks around this new environment, depending on you to protect them against the watchful eyes of the hawks and eagles.
DAYS 7 - 8: Although a wonderful lodge exists close to the entrance to Sossusvlei and the Sesriem Gorge, an equally suitable Desert Camp was chosen purely because the lodge could become too busy and crowded. After a short siesta during the hottest part of the day, take a late afternoon drive to explore the geologically historic Sesriem Gorge. On your second morning, be woken before sunrise for a drive along the Tsauchab valley, towards some of the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. You are at own leisure to climb and explore these dunes, and experience the ever-changing earth-tone hues of the landscape as the sun rises. Descend, and enjoy a picnic brunch under age-old Camel thorn trees before returning to camp.
DAYS 9 - 10: Today you will understand the Namib, and recognize the saying: "The desert love those, who love the desert". You will fully realize why we invited you here, and you will appreciate the affect on your quintessence. Arrive at a majestic, lone mountain towering over the flat surrounding landscape. At its base, you will spend the next two nights, experiencing how the silence can seem absolute to the human ear. Around sunset, listen to the choir of barking geckos, their voices fading away into the distance.
DAYS 11 - 12: The vastness of the Namib is only equaled by its own diversity and contrasts. While you've experienced wide open, grassy vistas and high sand dunes up till now, the Namib offers endless gravel plains further north, typified by dark green, snake-like lines over the landscape, the hardy Camel thorn trees mark the passage of unseen, subterranean water courses and ancient rivers. Arrive at a Namib nature camp for a final opportunity to soak up the desert into your veins, to become an ever-present memory from which you may draw, whenever you need it.
DAY 13: Unfortunately, even good dreams must come to an end, and today you have to return to Windhoek. But, we will not "remove" you from the wilderness & simply "dump" you back into civilization. Accommodation tonight will be at a small, quiet Game Lodge en-route to the airport. Should you so wish, join a sundowners drive to savor your final view of our sunset on this, your last night in Namibia, Africa.
DAY 14: Subject to flight departure time, you may have all morning to enjoy nature walks, finish those last exposures / memory disc space, or simply laze on a pool chair, viewing wildlife at the waterhole. Transfer to Namibia's International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight.
