Calling painters, writers, poets and song writers! Perhaps you simply want time to recover from some traumatic event in your life and find yourself again - where better than close to Nature? Allow Nature to write your poem, story, song or be the object on your canvas. Let the majesty of Nature sooth your mind and soul; allow the silence and tranquility of your surroundings to wash over you and make you aware of your place in the scheme of Life. We publish this safari as an 10-day escape, but this is purely due to a previous guest's request. It is entirely customizable to your needs, interests, preferences and time frame. Whatever you seek, artistically, for body, mind and soul, you'll find it here in the Gem of Africa - Namibia! Not a safari in the true sense of the word, as safari is merely the Swahili word for journey. This is not a "physical journey", but a safari of the imagination; a journey reserved for mind and soul.
Synonymous with the spirit of freedom, the southern Namib desert exhibits this emotion so clearly with the well-known presence of the feral horses. Viewing - normally domesticated - animals roaming free over such a vast area, can at times create an emotion of jealousy or yearning in some individuals. Still, even such apparent freedom comes at a price. Although the horses, today, do not know about domestication or ownership, their mere survival is a daily struggle. When the future of these gamboling free spirits seemed to hang in the balance, the concern and dedication of complete strangers intervened, and ensured that life-giving water is now available to them in their arid environment. But not without a measure of curtailment of their freedom - their roaming is naturally now restricted to be within reach of this gift. Adaptation was almost immediate - nature's lesson in thankfulness - a little give-and-take. Here, on this soil of the oldest desert on earth, is represented the story of Earth, portrayed through the awesome results of Nature's essential performance.
Experience this timeless desert where the silence of its remote ruggedness, loneliness and desolation sometimes seems absolute to the human ear - yet rings loud and speaks volumes to those who wish to listen. Seemingly lifeless, the Namib is home to a wide variety of life forms, from the minutest organism to the stately Oryx. Both plant and animal have learn to tap the "invisible", but powerful, source of the desert to sustain life in all its forms - though hardships and rejoicing. What better inspiration than the wondrous tree of the Namib, the Welwitschia mirabilis. Not many can face such adverse conditions, and the many knocks received in life, then still get up, adapt, and survive for 2000 years plus!
Example Itinerary of a possible combination:
Day 1: Meet your host at Namibia's International airport and transfer to a comfortable bed and breakfast in Windhoek to relax from the flight and acclimatize to Namibia.
Days 2-4: After a leisurely breakfast, travel along the perimeter of the Khomas Hochland (our central highlands) towards the edge of the escarpment. Pause for a while, and enjoy a picnic lunch with the endless vistas of the Namib desert at your feet. Descend into the Namib, and soon you will arrive at your accommodation in a secluded valley, where you will remain until Day 4.
Days 5-7: A relatively long drive today through Landscapes of the Soul! Panoramas that will make it difficult for you to believe that you are Not dreaming - the wide open spaces and unpolluted skies are real! Pass by sand dunes and mountains in the distance, and in the shadow of the Tiras Mountains, until you reach your next destination. (Your chalet here is 7 km removed from the reception area, and known by the very appropriate name of Eagles Nest). Your home until Day 7.
Day 8: Because you have gradually moved very far away from Windhoek, you shall have to start back today. But instead of being tired out on such a long journey, a night stop is included at a rustic rest camp. Very quiet, and surrounded with the wonders of our past - a fossil site providing evidence of just how long life has continued on earth, regardless!
Day 9: Unfortunately, for a 10-day visit, you simply have to return to Windhoek today. But, we won't "remove you from serene nature", and simply dump you back into civilization. Your accommodation tonight will be in a small, quiet Game Lodge en-route to the airport. Should you feel up to it, join a sundowners nature drive for a final glimpse of our sunset on this, your last night in Namibia, Africa.
Day 10: Subject to flight departure time, you may have all morning to enjoy nature walks or simply laze in a pool chair, viewing wildlife at the waterhole - a tranquil scene to ease you out of the last few days' seclusion. Transfer directly to Namibia's International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight.
