A Safari offering a very full 10 days! The Kalahari Desert has intrigued both explorers and adventurers for decades, but it had been home to the Bushman, or San people, plus its wide variety of Fauna and Flora for centuries. Although a region classified as arid, when it does rain, the Kalahari turns into an absolute paradise. This short safari will introduce you to the many facets, faces and activities supported by a desert. The tour will start at Namibia's International airport, and end there again 10 days later. Besides the splendor of its scenery and the diverse population of its wildlife, learn how the Kalahari supports production - with the help of a few dedicated people. Feast your eyes on the various art-forms created in the heart of the Kalahari.
For the more energetic, an exhilarating and most exciting guided Black Rhino tracking on foot can be arranged. This safari is also ideal for those who do not wish to spend 80% of their time in a safari vehicle, but would rather cut down on distances and riding time, in favor of a more rewarding footloose exploration and close up contact with nature. Top off your eastern expectations on the orange-red, linear dunes of the Kalahari. Experience the gradient colors of a true Kalahari sunset - a memory imprint clearer than a photograph!
Your Itinerary:
Day 1: Meet your host at Namibia's International airport and then a short journey to a Kalahari Elephant Lodge built around an old German, 19the century style Homestead. Relax from the long flight, and acclimatize to Namibia.
Day 2: A very rewarding Game drive to view a wide variety of wildlife, including Cheetah. For the more energetic, a Rhino tracking adventure on foot can be arranged.
Day 3: A relatively short drive today to a guest farm only 4 km from the Botswana border. End your day, viewing the delightful dancing rituals of the Bushman.
Day 4: Start your day with a very informative hike this morning, under guidance of a Bushman tracker. Relax during the hottest part of the day, before joining a late afternoon Game drive.
Day 5: A leisurely breakfast and maybe another short nature walk before continuing towards the central Kalahari for your next stop. After lunch, the afternoon free to enjoy nature walks and acquaint yourself with your new environment.
Day 6: A hearty breakfast to set you right for some cave exploring. You are now at the site of the longest cave in Namibia. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy free nature walking trails and acquaint yourself with your new environment.
Day 7: Continue further south along the linear dunes of the Kalahari. End your day, viewing the gradient colors of a Kalahari sunset between sky and orange-red dunes, on a relaxing sundowners drive.
Day 8: After breakfast, join a local guide to visit a Game viewing hide for a rewarding photographic session of the Kalahari wildlife. End your day with an enjoyable Cheetah drive before dinner.
Day 9: As this short safari dictates that you have to return to Windhoek today, join an early morning scenic drive, or, join a guided morning walk. Return to base and proceed towards Windhoek, to arrive in time for a light lunch before settling into a comfortable ranch guest farm en-route to the airport. For those who feel up to it, join a scenic drive for a final view of our sunset on this, your last night in Namibia, Africa.
Day 10: Subject to flight departure time, you may have a leisurely and late farm breakfast, then explore the area to finish those last few exposures, or Mb on your digital camera memory card. Be transferred to Namibia's International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight.
