PLEASE NOTE: If a minimum number of guests are stated, we can unfortunately NOT RESPOND to an enquiry for less than the required minimum.
This safari is guaranteed to run, even with a minimum booking of only two guests! The safari starts in Windhoek, and will end again in Windhoek - 17 days later.
Your itinerary will include the Capital City, Windhoek, without staying in the City! View and climb some of the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei; go on Game viewing drives in the Etosha National Park; view and photograph the antics of the Cape fur Seals on the Skeleton Coast, meet the true Bushman on a visit to their village and learn their survival techniques.
In between, lose yourself amongst the Treasures of the Earth; spend 2 full days plus 1 night out in the wilderness of Kaokoland to track the elusive desert Elephants & free-roaming Black Rhino; view the largest mineral, crystal cluster ever unearthed to date; stand in awe next to the oldest living plant specimens on earth - the Welwitschia mirabilis, experience utter desolation at the Moon Landscape. ALL as close to Nature as possible - on a camping safari!
Although a revised itinerary, & some new venues, rates for 2008, was decreased considerably.
Your Itinerary:
Day 1: Meet your host at Namibia's International airport. Transfer to Windhoek for a quick tour of its sights & sounds, before settling into a comfortable B&B establishment on the outskirts of Windhoek, to relax from the long flight and to acclimatize to Namibia.
Day 2: After a good night's rest and breakfast, continue north towards a rustic rest camp where you shall have the first opportunity - with luck - to view the smallest and largest antelope species found in Namibia. En-route, visit the largest, intact Meteorite found on earth to date.
Day 3: Entire day to join an excursion to a local Bushman community. You will accompany the Bushmen on their daily "hunting" to demonstrate their skills and techniques. (As these hunters are still dependent on hunting for food, a demonstration can easily turn into a real hunt!) You will also have the opportunity to learn a few words in their language, help make some crafts and shoot an arrow with one of their bows.
Day 4: Continue towards a campsite just outside the Etosha National Park, with a quick visit to the mysterious Lake Otjikoto en-route. Arrive in time to settle in camp. If time allows, join a late afternoon Game viewing drive.
Day 5: An entire day to enjoy Game viewing within the Park. Stop for lunch at one of the rest camps during the hottest part of the day. Explore this area of the Park after lunch, before returning to camp and dinner.
Day 6: Early breaking of camp this morning to re-enter the Etosha for breakfast. Traverse the entire length of the visitors region in Etosha today on a slow Game viewing drive. Lunch at a different rest camp today. Exit Etosha on the western side to pitch camp, again just outside the gate.
Day 7: Breakfast in Etosha again this morning, before starting on a Game drive through a different region of the Park today. Lunch in the Park.
Day 8: A relatively long drive today as you approach one of the last true Wilderness areas in Africa - Damaraland! This is home to the famous Namibian desert Elephants. A quick stop at the Petrified Forest, en-route to your first Damaraland campsite of this safari. Arrive in time to freshen up before joining a sunset drive to acquaint yourself with Damaraland.
Day 9: After breakfast, you are in the care of a local guide as you start off on a unique mini-safari - tracking the elusive desert Elephants and Black Rhinos. (The only place on earth where these Rhinos still roam free). Tonight you will not return to camp, but remain out in the wilderness in the company of your guide, and enjoying a wilderness dinner.
Day 10: Continue with your tracking today, but despite the fact that this is an Elephant-/Rhino tracking excursion, remember that you may also encounter anything from Cheetah, Leopard, Lion, Giraffe, Zebra, many species of antelope, and a myriad bird life - not to mention Jackals, Caracal and other small, nocturnal wildlife.
Day 11: A leisurely breakfast this morning as you have a relatively short "hop" today and will stop over at the Brandberg - Namibia's highest mountain peak. Enjoy this venue as the last sight of Damaraland on your safari.
Day 12: En-route today, make a slight detour, and visit the largest Cape Fur Seal colony on a mainland in the world, at Cape Cross. An ideal opportunity for some real close-up photography of these - sometimes comical - creatures of the sea. After lunch, continue to the premier holiday resort of Namibia, Swakopmund. If you are seafood lovers, Swakopmund is it!
Day 13: Entire day at own leisure to partake of any of a number of optional activities offered. (NOT included in the safari price). Or, choose to view the largest mineral crystal cluster ever unearthed to date. Maybe you want to simply laze around on the beach; visit a variety of restaurants, the cinema or the casino; or, return to the Namib to experience the utter desolation of the Lunar Landscape and stand in awe next to the oldest living plant specimens on earth - the Welwitschia mirabilis.
Day 14: Traverse the endless gravel plains of the central Namib today, en-route to the dune fields in the south. Arrive at a guest farm campsite in time to enjoy a nature walk in your new surroundings before dinner.
Day 15: Move further south towards Sossusvlei. Late afternoon, explore the geologically historic Sesriem gorge. While your camp dinner is being prepared tonight, don't forget to look heavenward and experience the true Southern Skies!
Day 16: Be woken before sunrise for an experience of a lifetime. Travel towards Sossusvlei to climb some of the highest sand dunes in the world! View the changing colours of earth-tone hues in this pristine landscape as the sun rises in the sky. After lunch at another campsite, return to Windhoek. Arrive by late afternoon, in time to freshen up before dinner. Let the cry of the Jackal lull you to sleep on this, your last night in Namibia, Africa.
Day 17: Subject to flight departure time, you may have time to enjoy nature walks on the premises, have a last swim or simply laze in a pool chair, viewing wildlife quenching their thirst at the waterhole. Transfer to Namibia’s International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight.
