Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival to Sezana.
Day 2: Sezana - Hruševica (20 km). The initial walk follows Slovene geological trail country inn. Main attractions: Hiking through idyllic Carst villages you'll have the chance to enjoy great local wines and food. Staying overnight in a typical local pub (which has a wine cellar built right above a huge cave).
Day 3: Komen – Gorjansko – border - Doberdo Lake – Monfalcone (16 km). A trekking walk along the typical Carst landscape of pine tree forests, caverns and stone fenced fields. Main attractions: this is the area where during WW1 Isonzo front lines reached the sea–full of touching reminders of human suffering and heroic battles culminating in the monumental tomb of fallen Italian soldiers at Doberdo lake.
Day 4: Monfalcone – Duino – Sistione – Santa Croce (18 km). An easy walk along the coastline of north Bay of Trieste. Main attractions: morning stop in the old settlement Village of Fishermen. Nearby is the source of shortest Italian river Timav, only 100 meters long! You'll love the famous Rilke panorama path–taking you from Duino castle to Sistiana bay, right on the ridge of the cliffs above the sea. It is here that the famous poet found inspiration for many of his epic poems. In summer months you can have a swim in the sea at one of many beaches.
Day 5: Santa Croce – Grotta Gigante – Repentabor – Villa Opicina (20 km). The morning coastal walk will bring you along the marine institute of Trieste. Don’t miss the famous Habsburg castle Miramare – the glorious last home of infamous Mexican king Maximillian of Habsburg. In the afternoon a visit of Carst cave Grotta Gigante may be in your interest. If you don't like the underground world – an information center will tell you more about research of Carst region.
Day 6: Villa Opicina – Basovizza – Lipica – Sezana (18 km). Panoramic walk above the City of Trieste (should you wish so, you can visit Trieste by traveling down to the city by famous Opicina cable car, do the sightseeing and travel to Basovica by bus). Main attractions: Lipica – the home of white Lipizzaner horses is worth a stop and a visit, on Fridays there is even a possibility of watching a training performance.
Day 7: End of Tour.
