Vermont was made for cycling. With its unrivaled network of quiet back roads, historic covered bridges and picturesque farms, it’s a cycling paradise. The Champlain Valley boasts some of the flattest terrain in the state. Along the way, we’ll stay in outstanding bed and breakfasts, each unique with its own charm and history.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: We’ll meet at the beautiful Inn at Shelburne Farms at 3:00pm for a rental bike fitting, 5:00pm for an orientation and 6:30pm for dinner. You’ll love this lakeside retreat, with its historic character, tradition of warmth and informal elegance. Our guides declare it their favorite place nationwide. 0 miles.

Day 2: Our first ride today takes us to the bustling college town of Middlebury — a typical New England town with its white-steepled church and central town green. You’ll be treated to a series of waterfalls as we ride over bridges into the middle of town. The short main street is full of wonderful quaint shops for browsing. We’ll overnight at the charming Middlebury Inn. 41 or 53 miles.

Day 3: We’ll stay another night in Middlebury and take the opportunity to bike to the former mill town of Vergennes, known as the oldest city in Vermont. Along the way, we’ll pass through a covered wooden bridge and enjoy views of the Adirondack Mountains across the lake in New York. Then you can choose to visit the Morgan Horse Farm, run by the University of Vermont. A National Historic Site, the beautiful farm provides educational and breeding programs dedicated to preserving the Morgan Horse. 32 miles.

Day 4: We continue our ride further south to the quaint village of Brandon, whose motto is, "Unhurried, unspoiled, unforgettable". You may want to take the self-guided walking tour through Brandon’s historic downtown with its entire core of 243 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. After a picnic lunch, you can choose to do an optional loop to see another covered bridge. The historic Brandon Inn will be our home for the evening. 24 or 42 miles.

Day 5: Our flatter ride takes us along Lake Champlain today. The 100-mile long lake has seen great armies and huge flotillas traverse its waters over the centuries. We’ll end our meandering journey at an inn on the water. 29 or 50 miles.

Day 6: We bike back to Shelburne, but not before seeing another covered bridge along the way. Then we’ll say our farewells after a picnic lunch. Our shuttle will take you to the airport by 2:00pm if you’re flying home. 30 miles.
