The Sawtooths are referred to as the American Alps. Their young, unworn, rocky peaks and alpine lakes are an astounding introduction to the beauty of Central Idaho. Known as "The River of No Return" the Salmon River originates in the Sawtooths and flows through a vast wilderness forming the second deepest gorge on the continent. Wildlife abounds around this wild river and we’ll traverse this rugged territory taking in the breathtaking views all along the way.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: We start our tour in the charming town of Ketchum, Idaho. We’ll meet for a rental bike fitting at 3:00pm, and an orientation meeting at 5:30 pm, followed by dinner.

Day 2: We start our cycling on a bike path out of town to a gradual ascent up Galena Summit at 7940, entering the domain of the Salmon River. We’ll catch our first view of the stunning Sawtooth range and then it’s all downhill to our rustic cabins at Redfish Lake. This glacier-fed, mountain lake is one of the most splendid alpine settings in the country. 24 or 60 miles.

Day 3: Today’s ride takes us through the small town of Stanley and on to Stanley Lake. Stanley boasts to be one of the country’s most picturesque cities, with spectacular views of the mountains. If yesterday’s climb wasn’t enough, then you can choose to ride the optional out-n-back to Banner Summit at over 6000’. 32 or 58 miles.

Day 4: We take a day off from our bicycles today to enjoy a beautiful raft trip down the Salmon River. In the evening, we’ll soak our bodies in the natural hot spring pools at the Sunbeam Dam. The 170 degree water mixes with the river for a delightful dip. 0 miles.

Day 5: Today, we follow the "River of No Return" to Challis. Keep your eyes peeled for wild mustangs and big-horned sheep. Our downstream ride will allow plenty of time for more soaking in the natural pools at Challis Hot Springs, located on the banks of the great river. 59 miles.

Day 6: Our ride takes us through the Big Lost River Valley to the Wild Horse Creek Ranch, where you’ll be treated to the ultimate in western hospitality. Along the way, we’ll pass by snow-capped Borah Peak, the highest mountain in the state. You’ll see few people and little traffic through this stunning terrain. 32 or 54 miles.

Day 7: After a morning shuttle on a dirt road over Trail Creek Summit, we’ll start biking from the majestic 5-star Sun Valley Lodge. We’ll ride along the scenic Big Wood River on the world-class, rails-to-trails, paved bike path. We’ll pass the internationally renowned Sun Valley ski resort and take in the glitz and glamour of Idaho’s own "Little Hollywood". Hailey is perhaps best known for having once been the home of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. You can stop at the Ernest Hemingway Memorial that commemorates the fact that he was also once a vibrant part of this western community. We’ll say our good-byes tonight at our last dinner together. 30 — 43 miles.

Day 8: Our tour ends this morning. You are free to take the hotel’s complimentary shuttle back to the airport at your leisure. You may want to stay and enjoy the beautiful Sun Valley Lodge for another day on your own. If you drove to the tour, We will drive you to your car in Ketchum. 0 miles.
