Mike Wiesmeier invites you to join him in Tuscany, Italy for a week of art instruction, beautiful architecture and great food. Mike, a former animator for Walt Disney and drawing instructor with the Getty Museum, will be your guide and instructor.
You will spend eight nights at the beautiful Hotel Villa Liana which is located a few minutes walk from Florence's historic center. Come and immerse yourself in the culture while honing your drawing abilities.
Instruction includes morning lecture and critique, on-site one-on-one drawing instruction, and drawing notes for each day. Subjects covered will include drawing the human head, human figure, use of value (light and dark), composition, and more.
Participants will also benefit from Mike's knowledge of Florence and Tuscany, where he currently lives. Locations visited will be eclectic and the sketching opportunities excellent!
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Welcome dinner - on the day of arrival we will share a sumptuous meal at elegant Osteria del Milione restaurant, located in the hills just outside Florence. Piazza Santissima Annunziata to Piazza Signoria - the fascinating and beautiful historic center of Florence.
Day 2: Giardino Bardini - the gardens of the former Villa Bardini, located in the San Niccolo neighborhood of Florence.
Day 3: Colle Val d'Elsa - one of the beautiful hilltowns of Tuscany. We will sketch in the town and local museum.
Day 4: Montepulciano - another beautiful Tuscan hilltown, this one famous for wine production. We will sketch and do wine tasting!
Day 5: Volterra - the largest hilltown on our itinerary is a beautiful former Etruscan city.
Day 6: Fiesole and Villa Peyron - Fiesole, located just outside Florence, is another former Etruscan town. We will sketch there and at nearby Villa Peyron.
Day 7: Piazza Santo Spirito to Brancacci Chapel - this piazza is located in the Oltrarno area of Florence. We will sketch here and at
the chapel, which features frescoes by Masaccio. In the evening we will have a farewell dinner at local Santo Bevitore restaurant.
